LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Junior Achievement of Western New York
for its participation in Financial Literacy Month

WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  recognize  and
commend  institutions  of  true purpose and high achievement whose exem-
plary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate  the  pursuit  of
excellence in service to the community; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor
Junior  Achievement  of Western New York for its participation in Finan-
cial Literacy Month; and
  WHEREAS, Financial Literacy Month is recognized throughout the  United
States in April of each year in an effort to highlight the importance of
financial  literacy  and  teach  Americans how to establish and maintain
healthy financial habits; and
  WHEREAS, Many of the country's financial  institutions  and  nonprofit
financial  educational organizations promote Financial Literacy Month by
holding promotional  events  and  creating  educational  materials  that
center around effectively handling money and dealing with debt; and
  WHEREAS,  Junior  Achievement USA is the nation's largest organization
dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they  need  to
own their economic success, plan for their future and make smart academ-
ic  and  economic  choices;  its purpose is to inspire and prepare young
people to succeed in a global economy; and
  WHEREAS,  Junior  Achievement  USA  reaches  more  than  four  million
students  per  year;  its  programs  are  taught  by volunteers in inner
cities, suburbs, and rural areas throughout the United States,  in  more
than 120 area offices in all 50 states; and
  WHEREAS,  Junior Achievement of Western New York actively participates
in Financial Literacy Month; its "JA  Economics  for  Success"  provides
instruction in concepts and skills to middle-grade students via a series
of  six  activities; this self-contained kit includes activity plans for
the volunteer and materials for 32 students; and
  WHEREAS, Through its "JA Economics for Success," Junior Achievement of
Western New York reinforces skills through interactive, take-home multi-
media techniques including a CD-ROM supplement  and  a  newsletter  with
directions to complete an online career assessment; and
  WHEREAS,  Junior Achievement of Western New York enhances values which
include: belief in the boundless potential of young people; passion  for
honesty,  integrity,  and excellence; belief in the power of partnership
and collaboration; commitment to the principles of market-based  econom-
ics and entrepreneurship; conviction in the educational and motivational
impact  of  relevant,  hands-on  learning  and  respect for the talents,
creativity, perspectives, and backgrounds of all individuals; and
  WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a  unique  opportunity  for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Junior Achievement
of Western New York; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be  recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Junior  Achievement  of Western New York for its participation in
Financial Literacy Month; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Junior Achievement of Western New York.
