LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Trooper  David W. Pearce Jr. upon the
occasion of his designation  as  the  recipient  of  a  Superintendent's
Commendation  Award  at the 37th Annual New York State Police Awards Day
Ceremony on May 16, 2013

WHEREAS, The quality  and  sanctity  of  community  life  are  cherished
values,  worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is moved to honor
those who preserve and protect such values, lauding  particularly  their
unwavering  courage  and  dedication  in  the daily performance of their
duties; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to honor
Trooper David W. Pearce Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as  the
recipient of a Superintendent's Commendation Award; and
  WHEREAS,  Trooper  Pearce will receive the award in recognition of his
outstanding police work at the 37th Annual New York State Police  Super-
intendent's  Commendation and Awards Day Ceremony, to be held at the New
York State Police Academy in Albany on Thursday, May 16, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, On January 14, 2012, at 10:47 PM, Trooper David W. Pearce  of
SP  Williamson,  along  with Investigator George V. Grbic, were clearing
from a call in Marion, New  York  when  they  were  advised  that  smoke
appeared  to be coming from an apartment above a local pizza shop; after
notifying 911, they both responded upstairs where they encountered smoke
in the hallway and an audible alarm; and
  WHEREAS, They immediately entered the apartment to  search  for  occu-
pants  and  were  met  with thick smoke, forcing them to crawl along the
floor; they located an unconscious male on a bed, pulled  him  into  the
airspace  near  the floor, and dragged him from the apartment to safety;
and
  WHEREAS, The injured man subsequently regained consciousness  and  was
treated by ambulance personnel; it was determined that he had been cook-
ing food on the stove and had inadvertently fallen asleep; and
  WHEREAS,  If  not for the quick actions of Trooper David W. Pearce and
Investigator George V. Grbic, the occupant of the apartment would likely
have tragically succumbed to the thick smoke in the apartment in a short
amount of time; and
  WHEREAS, In keeping with the finest traditions of the New  York  State
Police,  Trooper  David  W.  Pearce Jr. has distinguished himself by his
exemplary achievement and  outstanding  performance  on  behalf  of  the
community he so faithfully and courageously serves; and
  WHEREAS,  The  dedicated  efforts  of public servants, such as Trooper
David W. Pearce Jr., who unselfishly devote their lives to the preserva-
tion of order and the protection of others are worthy of the full praise
of this Legislative Body and the people of the State of New  York;  now,
therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper David W. Pearce Jr. upon the occasion of  his  designation
as  the  recipient  of a Superintendent's Commendation Award at the 37th
Annual New York State Police Superintendent's  Commendation  and  Awards
Day Ceremony on May 16, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trooper David W. Pearce Jr.
