LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of SUNY Delhi
to be celebrated May 4, 2013

WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of true purpose and high  achievement  whose  exem-
plary  programs  and  accomplishments clearly demonstrate the pursuit of
excellence in education and service to the community; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of SUNY  Delhi;  to  be  celebrated  at  its
Centennial  Gala  on  May  4, 2013, at the Farrell Student and Community
Center, Delhi, New York; and
  WHEREAS, A State School of Agriculture and Domestic Science  at  Delhi
was  first  proposed by Elizabeth MacDonald; through her strong determi-
nation, dedication, and the support of a group of Delhi citizens, Gover-
nor William Sulzer signed legislation in 1913, to  create  what  is  now
known as SUNY Delhi; and
  WHEREAS,  The  College  is nestled in the majestic Catskill Mountains,
and to many of its inhabitants,  it  is  one  of  the  most  picturesque
settings one could imagine; and
  WHEREAS,  What  began as nine students, one director, and two instruc-
tors on October 14, 1915 when SUNY Delhi first  opened  its  doors,  has
remarkably  grown  to inspire the minds and change the lives of the more
than 30,000 alumni it encompasses today; and
  WHEREAS, From its earliest beginnings SUNY Delhi's  colors  have  been
green  and  white,  but  in  2007,  in accordance with its long-standing
mission of fostering achievement and success, the color gold was  intro-
duced; and
  WHEREAS,  In  1948,  Delhi  became part of the State University of New
York, the largest comprehensive system of  universities,  colleges,  and
community colleges in the United States; and
  WHEREAS,  Under  the luminous and experienced leadership of its Presi-
dent Candace S. Vancko, THE NEW YORK TIMES ranked SUNY Delhi  as  having
the eighth best baccalaureate graduation rate in the United States; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  practice  of this Legislative Body that when an
educational institution  of  such  noble  aims  and  accomplishments  is
brought  to  our attention, it should be recognized and applauded by all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of SUNY Delhi; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Candace S. Vancko, President of SUNY Delhi.
