LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  mourning  the  death of Mary Macsherry, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body  to  pay  tribute  to
citizens  of  the  State  of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
  WHEREAS, Mary Macsherry died on December 10, 2012, at the age  of  94;
and
  WHEREAS,  Mary Macsherry has been honored posthumously by the Northern
New York Community Foundation  with  its  2013  Spirit  of  Philanthropy
Award,  for  her  years of charitable work throughout the North Country;
and
  WHEREAS, The award was presented to the Macsherry family at the North-
ern New York Community Foundation Annual Meeting,  held  at  Hospice  of
Jefferson County; and
  WHEREAS,  A  Watertown  resident,  Mary  Macsherry's  legacy  lives on
through the charitable works she accomplished, including several signif-
icant monetary gifts made in her honor after her death by  her  husband,
Richard R.  Macsherry, to Samaritan Medical Center, Hospice of Jefferson
County,  Trinity Episcopal Church, and River Hospital in Alexandria Bay;
and
  WHEREAS, In 1997, Mr. and Mrs. Macsherry provided the necessary  funds
to build the Macsherry Library in Alexandria Bay; and
  WHEREAS,  In  2010,  they  further  provided  funds  to  establish  an
11,000-square-foot addition, the Macsherry Parish Center, at the Trinity
Episcopal Church; and
  WHEREAS, In addition  to  her  charitable  donations,  Mary  Macsherry
volunteered  throughout  her  life  at  many community organizations and
churches, helping and inspiring others through her spirit of giving; and
  WHEREAS, Mary Macsherry leaves behind a legacy which will long  endure
the  passage  of  time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
mourn  the  death  of  Mary Macsherry, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Mary Macsherry.
