LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Queens
Nan Shan Senior Center to be celebrated on May 23, 2013

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and  knowledge  to
the  increasingly  active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  honor  those
illustrious  organizations  of  the  State  of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for the cherished  senior
citizens in their communities; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 25th
Anniversary  of  the  Queens  Nan Shan Senior Center to be celebrated on
Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Jade Asian Restaurant  in  Flushing,  New
York; and
  WHEREAS, As the Chinese-American Planning Council's only senior center
in  the  outer  boroughs,  the  Queens Nan Shan Senior Center has been a
vibrant gathering place for Flushing's Asian community; and
  WHEREAS, This vital Center has served many Mandarin Chinese  speakers,
providing  solace,  aid,  and  social activities to New York's expanding
population of elderly Chinese; and
  WHEREAS, By delivering Meals-on-Wheels to the homebound  and  offering
congregate  meals  at  the  center, the Queens Nan Shan Senior Center is
committed to helping keep seniors healthy and to offer them a  place  to
gather, breaking down the walls of isolation; and
  WHEREAS, The Queens Nan Shan Senior Center also gives seniors a reason
to  get  up  and  get  out, leading to both their physical and emotional
health; and
  WHEREAS, The programs offered have made the  Queens  Nan  Shan  Senior
Center  a  crucial part of the Queens Asian community even while seeking
to expand its senior services and programs to meet the current needs  of
its seniors; and
  WHEREAS,  The Queens Nan Shan Senior Center's exemplary home attendant
program brings friendly help to those who are  in  need  of  medical  or
disability services, working with families and physicians to tailor each
home care plan; and
  WHEREAS,  This  significant  milestone  is an excellent opportunity to
recognize the special contributions of the Queens Nan Shan Senior Center
and the dedicated individuals who strive to better the quality  of  life
for senior citizens in the community; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate the legacy of New York's senior citizens who have  experienced
tumultuous changes in the 20th Century, including the dawn of the nucle-
ar  age,  the rise of the computer, and the proliferation of the automo-
bile, television, technology and so many other innovations of the Ameri-
can spirit, and  who  now  represent  a  great  and  willing  source  of
knowledge  available  to our great State of New York; now, therefore, be
it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  25th Anniversary of the Queens Nan Shan Senior Center;
and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Queens Nan Shan Senior Center.
