LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Susan Najork upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2013 Ruth and James Ottaway Medal by the
Orange County Citizens Foundation on May 1, 2013

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and  serve  the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
  WHEREAS,  Susan Najork has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor  Susan  Najork
upon  the  occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2013 Ruth and
James Ottaway Medal by  the  Orange  County  Citizens  Foundation;  this
auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the
annual  Ottaway  Medal  Dinner,  to  be  held  at  the  Powelton Club in
Newburgh, New York; and
  WHEREAS, Established in 1971, the Orange County Citizens Foundation is
a private, non-profit corporation that coordinates  16  engaged  commit-
tees;  its  Board  and staff serve as community volunteers to learn more
about the needs of Orange County residents; and
  WHEREAS, The Ottaway Medal is named in honor of Ruth and  James  Otta-
way, Sr., who set the bar for local community involvement years ago; the
couple  helped  to  found the Citizens Foundation and also lent personal
and financial support to many other community treasures; and
  WHEREAS, Susan Najork has been called upon to contribute her time  and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
  WHEREAS, Currently serving on the Boards of Directors for the Communi-
ty  Foundation  of Orange & Sullivan, Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Coun-
ties, and Mount Saint Mary College, Susan Najork is also a former member
of the Boards of Directors of St. Luke's Cornwall  Hospital  (Foundation
and Auxiliary) and the Newburgh Day Nursery; and
  WHEREAS,  Susan Najork is a former trustee, deacon, and session member
for the Calvary Presbyterian Church; she is a  well-respected  community
philanthropist  and  the retired owner and director of Collection Bureau
Hudson Valley, Inc.; and
  WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of her community,  Susan  Najork
also  sits on the Capital Campaign Committee for Newburgh's Ritz Theater
and supports other organizations, including the Hudson Highlands  Nature
Museum and the Orange County Land Trust; and
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  entire  period  of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Susan Najork has stood  constant  in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual  for the benefit of others which Susan Najork has displayed through-
out her life; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Susan Najork upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2013 Ruth and James Ottaway Medal  by  the  Orange  County  Citizens
Foundation; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That A copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Susan Najork.
