Mourning the untimely passing of Webster Police Lieutenant Michael J. "Chip" Chiapperini

LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION mourning the untimely passing and paying tribute
to the life and valiant service  of  West  Webster  Volunteer  Firemen's
Association  Firefighter and Webster Police Lieutenant Michael J. "Chip"
Chiapperini who died in the line of duty on December 24, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body  to  pay  tribute  to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
  WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and  Nation  are  inspired  by  and
indebted to our noble firefighters and police officers who exhibit cour-
age  and  bravery  every  day in the course of their duties; 43-year-old
Michael J. "Chip" Chiapperini was one such firefighter and police  offi-
cer who died in service to others, doing what he loved; and
  WHEREAS,  On  December  24,  2012,  Michael Chiapperini responded to a
house and vehicle fire on Lake Road in Webster, New York; and
  WHEREAS, Within seconds of arriving on the scene gun shots were  fired
at   the   responding  firefighters;  Michael  Chiapperini  alerted  his
colleagues and, as firefighters were being wounded, he moved through the
firetruck to the passenger side and then, on foot in  the  direction  of
the gunman; tragically, as he advanced, Michael Chiapperini, a dedicated
firefighter,  police officer and extraordinary human being, was mortally
wounded while attempting to protect others; and
  WHEREAS, Michael J. "Chip" Chiapperini, a West Webster Volunteer Fire-
men's Association volunteer for 25  years,  was  a  past  Chief  of  the
Department; and
  WHEREAS,  Moreover, Michael J. "Chip" Chiapperini served as an advisor
for  the  West  Webster  Volunteer  Firemen's  Association's  Firematics
Explorer  Post and, in December of 2012, he was named Firefighter of the
Year; and
  WHEREAS, Michael J. "Chip" Chiapperini also  served  with  distinction
for  19  years  as  a Police Officer with the Webster Police Department,
rising to the esteemed rank of Lieutenant; and
  WHEREAS, Recently, Michael J. "Chip" Chiapperini  took  vacation  time
from  his  job  at the police department to travel with a group of other
emergency responders to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy; and
  WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Michael J. "Chip"  Chiapperini  was
also the Webster Police Department's Public Information Officer; and
  WHEREAS,  Michael  J.  "Chip"  Chiapperini  is  survived  by his wife,
Kimberly, and three beloved children, Nicholas, Kacie and Kylie; and
  WHEREAS, The West Webster Volunteer Firemen's Association and  Webster
Police Department families will always remember this outstanding man for
the  hard  work  and  dedication  he  showed the fire company and police
department, as well as the community,  but  most  importantly,  for  his
quality of character; and
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  his  life, Firefighter and Police Lt. Michael J.
"Chip" Chiapperini touched many through his kindness and  commitment  to
service,  and,  as  we recall the loss of this great man, we memorialize
his remarkable life and the enormous impact he had on everyone with whom
he came in contact; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its grate-
ful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of this
courageous firefighter and police officer who dedicated  his  purposeful
life  and  career  in faithful service to his family and community; now,
therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
mourn  the  untimely  passing  and  pay  tribute to the life and valiant

service of West Webster Volunteer Firemen's Association Firefighter  and
Police  Lieutenant  Michael  J.  "Chip"  Chiapperini, and to express its
deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted  to  the  family  of  Firefighter and Police Lieutant Michael J.
"Chip" Chiapperini.
