LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the valiant and dedicated service of the
responders  involved  in  the December 24, 2012, tragedy in Webster, New
York

WHEREAS, Citizens across our  State  and  Nation  are  inspired  by  and
indebted to our noble firefighters and police officers who exhibit cour-
age and bravery every day in the course of their duties; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and  heroic  acts  of  individuals  who  take
prompt  and  appropriate  action  in emergency situations, nobly risking
their own lives in an effort to preserve the life and property of anoth-
er; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
valiant and dedicated service of the responders involved in the December
24, 2012, tragedy in Webster, New York; and
  WHEREAS, These outstanding public servants are:  Police  Officer  John
Ritter;  Police  Officer  Mark  Reed; Police Sergeant Kevin Hall; Police
Officer Shaun Welch; and Police Officer Doug Pollock; and
  WHEREAS, Greece Police Officer John Ritter was off duty on that Monday
morning, when he followed the  Webster  fire  trucks  to  the  scene  in
Webster, New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Webster Police Officer Mark Reed was dispatched to the scene
of the fire on Lake Road; he arrived ahead of the firefighters and noti-
fied 9-1-1 dispatchers to the severity of the situation; and
  WHEREAS, Webster Police Sergeant Kevin Hall also arrived on the  scene
on December 24, 2012; taking prompt action, he helped to set up an imme-
diate perimeter around the scene; and
  WHEREAS,  Webster  Police  Officer  Shaun Welch and Irondequoit Police
Officer Doug Pollock also arrived at the scene and set  up  a  perimeter
along the waterfront during the ambush; and
  WHEREAS,  The collective actions of these extraordinary officers saved
the lives of countless others who  may  have  been  injured  or  fatally
wounded  if not for their immediate and steadfast actions they had taken
during the events of December 24, 2012; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to individuals such as Police Officer John Ritter, Police  Offi-
cer  Mark  Reed, Police Sergeant Kevin Hall, Police Officer Shaun Welch,
and Police Officer Doug Pollock who perform dangerous and life-threaten-
ing deeds with diligence and precision; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others  which  these  valiant  public  servants  have
displayed throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the valiant and dedicated service of the  responders  involved  in
the December 24, 2012, tragedy in Webster, New York; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted  to Police Officer John Ritter, Police Officer Mark Reed, Police
Sergeant Kevin Hall, Police Officer Shaun Welch, and Police Officer Doug
Pollock.
