LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  Edie  Katz upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Friends of Sands  Point  Preserve
at its Gold Gala on May 4, 2013

WHEREAS,  Individuals  who distinguish themselves in their profession or
in service to their community merit the highest commendation; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with  its  long-
standing  tradition,  this  Legislative  Body is justly proud to commend
Edie Katz upon the occasion of her designation for  special  recognition
by  Friends  of Sands Point Preserve at its Gold Gala, to be held at the
Hempstead House on May 4, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, Well-known as one of the "Bee Whisperers of the Gold  Coast,"
Edie  Katz has served the community through her leadership roles in many
organizations, including the Sands Point Garden Club, the Port  Washing-
ton  Library  Foundation Board, Temple Beth Israel and the Nassau County
Museum of Art; and
  WHEREAS, Edie Katz is a life-long resident of Long  Island,  dedicated
to  family  life,  healthcare,  and  an extraordinary level of community
service; she raised her family of  four  children  in  Port  Washington,
where she has resided since 1972; and
  WHEREAS,  Edie  Katz's professional career began as a nurse's aide and
went on to include registered nurse in OB-GYN, the Newborn Nursery,  and
Labor  and Delivery at Syosset Hospital; she then worked as a registered
operating room nurse at St. Francis and Long  Island  Jewish  Hospitals;
and
  WHEREAS,  Her  extensive  volunteer  work includes leadership roles in
organizations across many fields of community service; Edie  Katz  is  a
member  of  the  Board  of  Trustees of Temple Beth Israel and a current
Board Member and Past President of the Sands Point Garden Club where she
developed and helped run the Annual Tasting & Tour at the  Helen  Keller
Sensory Garden for the Deaf and Blind; and
  WHEREAS,  Edie  Katz  is  also a member of the Port Washington Library
Foundation Board and is the  past  and  present  Chairman  of  its  very
successful  Annual  Galas; she is, in addition, a member of the Cow Neck
Historical Society and a past Associate Trustee  of  the  Nassau  County
Museum of Art; and
  WHEREAS,  She  is  a  natural childbirth doula; her personal interests
span poetry writing, knitting, painting, the study of historical  build-
ings  and museums, bird watching - and mothering, and natural childbirth
and, she is currently a  Licensed  Associate  Real  Estate  Broker  with
Laffey Fine Homes; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Edie Katz upon the  occasion  of  her  designation  for  special
recognition  by  Friends of Sands Point Preserve at its Gold Gala on May
4, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Edie Katz.
