LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  James  Mumma upon the occasion of his
designation as a recipient of the Distinguished  Teacher  Award  by  the
Harvard Club of Long Island

WHEREAS,  Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community merit the highest commendation; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, this Legislative  Body  is  justly
proud  to  honor  James  Mumma upon the occasion of his designation as a
recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award by the Harvard Club of Long
Island; and
  WHEREAS, James Mumma, who has taught within the Roslyn School District
for 18 years and currently teaches  AP  European  History  and  Art  and
Architecture  I and II, is one of a dozen teachers across Long Island to
be honored each year with the  award;  he  received  his  award  at  the
Harvard  Club's  annual  University  Relations Lunch on Sunday, April 7,
2013; and
  WHEREAS, Dedicated  teachers  like  James  Mumma  expend  unfathomable
amounts of time and energy teaching Long Island teens, day after day and
year after year; their efforts inspire students to dream dreams, to work
to accomplish those dreams, and to think rigorously about what they want
their future to be; and
  WHEREAS, This year's Distinguished Teacher Award winners were selected
by  Harvard students as well as Harvard Club of Long Island members, and
teach history, math, English, science, music,  and  physical  education;
and
  WHEREAS,  James  Mumma has created a devoted student following for his
classes in AP European History and Art History because his knowledge and
content are unparalleled along with his connection to students; and
  WHEREAS, A true asset to society, James Mumma's  distinguished  record
merits  the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor James Mumma upon the occasion of his designation as a recipient of
the  Distinguished Teacher Award by the Harvard Club of Long Island; and
be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James Mumma.
