LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  congratulating the Rescue Mission of Utica upon
the occasion of its designation as recipient  of  the  2013  Outstanding
Contribution by an Organization Award

WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New  York  State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions  and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Rescue Mission of Utica upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Contribution by an Organization  Award
on  Wednesday,  May 15, 2013, at the Oneida County Older American Awards
Dinner; and
  WHEREAS, Currently there are 40 active registered  Rescue  Mission  of
Utica  volunteers  over  the  age of 60; they contribute wealth of know-
ledge, time, and experience to six  of  the  Mission's  social  services
programs; and
  WHEREAS,  In 2012, numerous individuals provided 9,319 hours of volun-
teer services; many retirees oversee the Computer Learning  Center  with
various  computer programs; they assist students as they prepare for GED
testing; and
  WHEREAS, Many registered senior volunteers assist with clerical duties
in both the  Representative  Payee  Program  and  the  Addiction  Crisis
Center;  two seniors monitor the Coin Canister ministry in both Herkimer
and Oneida Counties and one seasoned volunteer acts as a  gatekeeper  at
the  Parker  House, monitoring the confidentiality of those in rehabili-
tation; and
  WHEREAS, The Food Service Department can always  count  on  dependable
retirees  to  be  at  work on time and oftentimes, at short notice, when
substitutes are required; in addition, there  is  an  Auxiliary  at  the
Mission  that  has  56 members with majority of them over the age of 60;
these individuals support the Mission with various service projects  and
are liaisons with various churches; and
  WHEREAS,  As  a  non-profit  organization, the Rescue Mission of Utica
could not accomplish all that they do without the  dedicated  assistance
from  their  senior members; these older citizens are beautiful examples
of sharing and caring; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that  when  individ-
uals  and  organizations  of  such  noble  aims  and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated  and  recognized  by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Rescue Mission of Utica upon the occasion of is  desig-
nation as recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Contribution by an Organiza-
tion Award; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Rescue Mission of Utica.
