LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Peter and Suzie Solender upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the 2013 Stewardship Award by
the Amherst Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that  the
quality  and  character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of  business  organ-
izations  and  individuals  that generously contribute to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to honor
Peter and Suzie Solender upon  the  occasion  of  their  designation  as
recipients  of  the  2013  Stewardship  Award  by the Amherst Chamber of
Commerce; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at  the  Chamber's
annual  Small  Business  Awards  Luncheon, to be held on Friday, May 17,
2013, at Samuel's Grande Manor in Buffalo, New York; and
  WHEREAS, Married for 46 years in March 2013, Peter and Suzie  Solender
exemplify the very best in volunteerism, demonstrating that volunteerism
is an essential element of all societies, providing a way in which human
values  of  community, caring and serving can be sustained and strength-
ened; and
  WHEREAS, Peter Solender has his  own  company;  he  is  an  electronic
engineer/medical  engineer; he received his B.S.E.E. degree in 1962 from
Lehigh University and his M.S.E.E. degree from Carnegie Mellon in  1963;
both his degrees were received with highest honors; and
  WHEREAS, Suzie Solender received her A.A.S. degree in 1962 from ECC in
dental  hygiene;  she also received both a B.A.B.A. degree in 1968 and a
Micro M.B.A. degree in 1995 from SUNY Buffalo; and
  WHEREAS, During the years when their children were  young,  Peter  and
Suzie  Solender  were active in numerous community volunteer activities,
including the Girl Scouts and PTA, PTSA, and  PTA  Council  at  all  the
children's schools in Williamsville, New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Peter  and  Suzie  Solender  were also active on the Parents
Council of the Rochester Institute of Technology; and
  WHEREAS, Both cancer survivors, Peter and Suzie  Solender  volunteered
for  numerous  American  Cancer Society committees and activities; Suzie
was also a volunteer for the American Heart Association; and
  WHEREAS, Active in their house of worship, Peter  and  Suzie  Solender
have  served on many fundraising committees; Suzie also served two terms
as Sisterhood President and two terms on the Board of Directors; and
  WHEREAS, In addition, the Solenders have  been  very  active  locally,
regionally and nationally in B'nai B'rith and B'nai B'rith Women; and
  WHEREAS,  Suzie  Solender  is  currently serving her second three-year
term on the Town of Amherst Youth Board; and
  WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a  unique  opportunity  for
this  Legislative  Body  to recognize and pay tribute to Peter and Suzie
Solender; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that  when  individ-
uals  of  such  noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by  all  the  citizens  of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peter and Suzie Solender upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the 2013 Stewardship  Award  by  the  Amherst  Chamber  of
Commerce; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peter and Suzie Solender.
