Recognizing the honorees of the Mohawk Valley Library System

LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  recognizing  the  honorees of the Mohawk Valley
Library System

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in joining its esteemed
entities as they recognize those who have  made  extraordinary  contrib-
utions; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Mohawk  Valley  Library System will present its Library
Recognition Award and its Harold and Junice Wusterbarth Award during its
Annual Dinner Meeting to be held at River Stone Manor on May  15,  2013;
  WHEREAS,  The  Library  Recognition  Award  will  be  presented to the
Gloversville Public Library for its sustained outreach  and/or  program-
ming efforts to reach an underserved and/or new customer population; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Gloversville Public Library is being recognized for its
month Tech Classes, which began in February of 2011; and
  WHEREAS, The classes are taught by Michael  Daly,  an  instructor  and
Public  Services  Librarian  at Fulton-Montgomery Community College, and
include topics such as Facebook, iPads, the Cloud, Excel, Word,  digital
cameras,  smartphones  versus  cell phones, Skype, Google, on-line shop-
ping, Internet safety, and eReaders; and
  WHEREAS, The library began this service to meet the growing technology
needs of its patrons; it has offered 17 classes with  over  100  partic-
ipants; and
  WHEREAS,  The Harold and Junice Wusterbarth Award will be presented to
Thomas Walsh, a long-time member of the Johnstown Public  Library  Board
of Trustees; and
  WHEREAS,  During  his  distinguished 40 years of service on the Board,
Tom has participated in a variety of activities, including washing dish-
es at the Storybook fundraiser, recruiting new Board members, serving on
the Personnel Committee that hired Barbara Germain as  Director,  under-
writing  the  shipping costs of the "Operation Paperback" books that the
library mails to overseas troops, and overseeing  the  library's  Budget
and  Finance Committee; he willingly extended his trusteeship to oversee
a recent transition of directors; and
  WHEREAS, When the library building was expanded and restored, Tom  was
actively  involved  in  financial planning and fundraising, and provided
legal counsel for a 501c3 application, contract  reviews  and  potential
property purchase; and
  WHEREAS,  Tom  has  also worked tirelessly for the library's financial
stability, including the establishment of the library's endowment; and
  WHEREAS, The State of New York is pleased to join  the  Mohawk  Valley
Library  System  in extending sincere appreciation to these honorees for
their valuable contributions; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
recognize  the  Gloversville  Public  Library  and  Tom Walsh upon being
honored by the Mohawk Valley Library System; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Gloversville Public Library and Tom Walsh.
