LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring the Schenectady Free Health Clinic upon
the occasion of receiving the Community Service Award  from  Schenectady
B'nai B'rith

WHEREAS,  The  State  of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed entities which have distinguished themselves in their  communi-
ties; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Schenectady Free Health Clinic will be honored with the
Community Service Award from Schenectady B'nai B'rith during a dinner to
be held at Congregation Agudat Achim on May 19, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, The Clinic was founded  by  Margaret  (Mardy)  Moore,  Robert
Pletman,  Arnold  Ritterband,  and  Clifford Tepper, who dedicated three
years in establishing the legality of and equipping the Clinic; and
  WHEREAS, It provides free comprehensive medical care,  including  free
diagnostic tests and medications, to residents of Schenectady County who
lack health insurance; and
  WHEREAS, The Clinic also provides free physical exams required by some
employers for initial employment; and
  WHEREAS, Since its opening in 2003, the volunteer physicians and other
health  care  professionals  have  worked  57,000  hours to serve 11,000
patients who, altogether, visited the clinic 40,000 times; and
  WHEREAS, About 2,500 of the 12,000  to  15,000  uninsured  persons  in
Schenectady County visited the Clinic last year; and
  WHEREAS, The Clinic receives funding from Schenectady County, New York
State, and private foundations and donors; Ellis Hospital provides diag-
nostic and lab work at no charge; and
  WHEREAS,  The  State  of New York is pleased to join Schenectady B'nai
B'rith in extending its sincere appreciation  to  the  Schenectady  Free
Health Clinic for its many valuable contributions to the community; now,
therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Schenectady Free Health Clinic upon the occasion of  receiving
the  Community  Service  Award  from Schenectady B'nai B'rith; and be it
further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Schenectady Free Health Clinic.
