LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION congratulating the Saratoga Rowing Association's
Girls Eight upon the occasion of capturing a gold medal in the Australi-
an World Open Rowing Championships

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize  and  pay
tribute  to  those  young  people  within the State of New York who have
inspired and brought pride to their school and  community  by  achieving
outstanding success in athletic competition; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to  congratu-
late  the Saratoga Rowing Association's Girls Eight upon the occasion of
capturing a gold medal in the Australian  World  Open  Rowing  Champion-
ships; and
  WHEREAS, The Saratoga Rowing Association comprised of Saratoga Springs
High  School  seniors  Caroline Murphy, Shannon Merboth, Alexis Georgia,
Keni Wegner and Kerri Wegner, juniors Mackenzie Battle,  Meghan  Hampton
and  MacKenzie  Hart,  and  sophomore Claire Murphy; the team won a gold
medal at the Australian World Championships in the under  19  age  divi-
sion; and
  WHEREAS, The Saratoga Rowing Association's Girls Eight practiced daily
in  near-freezing  temperatures on Fish Creek; the world champions raced
the 2,000-meter course in six minutes, 54.76 seconds winning  over  Swan
River Composite by more than six seconds; and
  WHEREAS, The team had previously performed admirably in major races in
the  United  States, including a victory on the Charles River and Boston
and was subsequently invited to the Australian World Championships; and
  WHEREAS, Loyally and enthusiastically supported by family,  fans,  and
friends, the Saratoga Rowing Association's Girls Eight have proven them-
selves  to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably
on their community; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
congratulate  the  Saratoga  Rowing  Association's  Girls Eight upon the
occasion of capturing a gold medal in the Australian World  Open  Rowing
Championships; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to members of the Saratoga Rowing Association's Girls Eight.
