LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Aline and Henry Euler upon the occasion
of their designation for special recognition by the  Poppenhusen  Insti-
tute

WHEREAS,  From  time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals  it  wishes  to  recognize  for  their  valued
contributions  to  the  success  and  progress  of  society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to honor
Aline and Henry Euler upon the occasion of their designation for special
recognition by the Poppenhusen Institute, to be celebrated at its Spring
Dinner on Saturday, May 11, 2013, in College Point, New York; and
  WHEREAS, Aline Euler takes on many roles at the  Alley  Pond  Environ-
mental  Center  in  Douglaston, Queens, where she has worked for over 30
years; she is a teacher, a grant writer, a conductor  of  teacher  work-
shops,  and a developer of curriculum and programs used by the education
staff at the Center; and
  WHEREAS, It gives Aline Euler great joy to teach youngsters and adults
about the natural environment and how important it is to treat our plan-
et with care and respect; before her tenure at the Center,  she  was  an
elementary  school  teacher  for  many  years  in  the West Islip public
schools; and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Aline Euler  is  an  activist  for  the  environment  and
belongs to many national and local organizations that deal with environ-
mental  issues;  she also is an advocate for historical preservation and
is a board member of the Bayside Historical Society; and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Euler's brother, Henry, is a retired mathematics  teacher
from  the  Hicksville  public  schools  where  he was primarily a middle
school instructor for over 33 years; since his retirement, he has become
a community advocate and is the First Vice President of  the  Auburndale
Improvement  Association,  a  member  of  Community Board 11, and is the
recording secretary for both the Bayside Historical Society and the Olde
Towne of Flushing Burial Ground Conservancy; and
  WHEREAS, Henry Euler advocates for community preservation as  well  as
environmental  protection  and writes many letters to the editors of the
local newspapers; the Eulers are proud to be life members of the Poppen-
husen Institute and are happy to lend their  support  to  the  wonderful
community organization; and
  WHEREAS,  Aline  and Henry Euler have supported the Institute for over
10 years by way of the Euler-Revaz Foundation; and
  WHEREAS, True assets to society, Aline and Henry Euler's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Aline  and Henry Euler upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by the Poppenhusen Institute; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Aline and Henry Euler.
