LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dolores Sarno upon the occasion of being
selected as Saratoga County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS,  Senior  citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society;  their  past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dolores Sarno
upon the occasion of being selected as  Saratoga  County's  2013  Senior
Citizen  of  the Year, in recognition of her invaluable contributions to
the community through her outstanding, and much  appreciated,  volunteer
work; and
  WHEREAS, As Saratoga County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year, Dolores
Sarno  will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon, hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA), at  the  Hart
Theatre  Lounge  in  the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 7, 2013;
and
  WHEREAS, The theme for this year's event, Unleash the  Power  of  Age,
recognizes  the  potential  energies  of  older individuals which can be
unleashed through civic engagement to address pressing social and commu-
nity needs; and
  WHEREAS, Dolores Sarno, a resident of  Saratoga  Springs,  who  taught
pre-school,  owned  a  small business, and recently retired as Executive
Director of the  Saratoga  County  Arts  Council,  has  a  long-standing
passion for promoting education and the arts; and
  WHEREAS,  This  remarkable  woman  has  volunteered  with the Saratoga
Mentoring Program, working with children living in  challenging  circum-
stances,  and  is  currently  serving  on  the Capital Committee for the
Regional Approach to Arts in Education, supporting  integration  of  the
arts in the school curriculum; and
  WHEREAS,  Dolores  Sarno  is  working  with  Soroptimist International
"Women Helping Women" and helping to establish a Community  Arts  Center
in  downtown  Saratoga; she is Co-Chair of Saratoga Vital Aging Network,
advocating for senior citizens, and encouraging them to volunteer in the
communities; and
  WHEREAS, Furthermore, she is a member of the Mayor's Saratoga  Springs
Advisory  Committee  for  Senior  Citizens,  a  Board member of Saratoga
Performing Arts Center, a Committee Member for Saratoga Springs  Preser-
vation Foundation, and Chair of the Saratoga Arts Fest Board; and
  WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Dolores Sarno's distinguished record
merits  the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Dolores  Sarno  upon  the  occasion of being selected as Saratoga
County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of the Resolution, suitably engrossed, be trans-
mitted to Dolores Sarno.
