LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Laura Bradley Chodos upon the occasion
of being selected as Saratoga County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and  knowledge  to
the  increasingly  active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Laura  Bradley
Chodos  upon  the  occasion  of being selected as Saratoga County's 2013
Senior Citizen of the Year, in recognition of  her  invaluable  contrib-
utions  to  the community through her outstanding, and much appreciated,
volunteer work; and
  WHEREAS, As Saratoga County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the  Year,  Laura
Bradley  Chodos  will  participate  in  the Annual New York State Senior
Citizens Day Luncheon, hosted by the State Office for the Aging  (SOFA),
at the Hart Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May
7, 2013; and
  WHEREAS,  The  theme  for this year's event, Unleash the Power of Age,
recognizes the potential energies of  older  individuals  which  can  be
unleashed through civic engagement to address pressing social and commu-
nity needs; and
  WHEREAS, Laura Bradley Chodos, a resident of Saratoga Springs, who has
lived  in  New  York State since 1953, was elected by the New York State
Legislature to serve as a member of the New York State Board of Regents,
and was the first woman appointed  to  chair  its  committee  on  Higher
Education and the Professions; and
  WHEREAS,  Laura Bradley Chodos volunteered as a member of the National
Board of Literacy  Volunteers  of  America  and  developed  after-school
tutoring  programs  for  children living in poor neighborhoods; she also
served as President of the after-school program in Albany from  2001  to
2007; and
  WHEREAS, Laura Bradley Chodos is a Foundation board member of Saratoga
Bridges  Board of the Vital Aging Network in Saratoga Springs, and Chair
of the Committee on Civic Engagement; and
  WHEREAS, In addition, Laura, along with her  husband,  established  an
endowment  for  outstanding  student  research on community history, and
helped to organize the Saratoga Springs-Chekhov Sister  Cities  program;
and
  WHEREAS,  A true asset to society, Laura Bradley Chodos' distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Laura Bradley Chodos upon the occasion of being selected as Sara-
toga County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Laura Bradley Chodos.
