LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  the You Can Go to College Committee
upon the occasion of its First  Annual  Pre-Mother's  Day  Banquet,  and
honoring  this  years' Guest Speaker Auntie Zeituni Onyango on April 28,
2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that  the
quality  and  character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of  the
community and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
the You Can Go to College Committee upon the occasion of its First Annu-
al  Pre-Mother's  Day  Banquet  "Rooted  in  Our  Past Preparing for the
Future!" to be held Sunday, April 28, 2013,  at  Occasions  Banquet  and
Catering Hall, Springfield Gardens, New York; and
  WHEREAS,  The  2013  Guest Speaker is Zeituni Onyango; this remarkable
woman, the author of TEARS OF ABUSE, will share her life story of strug-
gle and triumph; and
  WHEREAS, Zeituni Onyango is the daughter of Mzee Hussein Onyango Koba-
ma, the grandfather of the 44th President of the United States of Ameri-
ca, President Barack Hussein Obama; and
  WHEREAS, Born in Algeo Kogelo Nyango'ma, Kenya, East  Africa,  Zeituni
Onyango  is  a  single  mother  of four children, one daughter and three
sons; and
  WHEREAS, She was educated in a  church  missionary  school;  following
high  school  she  went  on  to  college  to pursue a degree in Computer
Programming and Operations;  upon  graduation,  she  worked  at  several
companies in the private and government sector before retiring; and
  WHEREAS,  Zeituni  Onyango  gave  20 years of distinguished service to
Kenya Breweries Ltd., as an  Information  Computer  Systems  Coordinator
before retiring; and
  WHEREAS,  She  is  an  active  advocate  for women's rights, residency
health, women abuse and homelessness; one of her major objectives is the
promotion of sensible women's rights in  order  to  build  families  and
stronger communities; and
  WHEREAS,  Zeituni  Onyango  believes  by  extending ourselves with the
sharing of love and affection for one another, respect of culture, race,
and tradition, we can forge a better relationship in humanity  as  human
beings; and
  WHEREAS,  Furthermore,  Zeituni  Onyango's mission is to encourage the
discouraged individuals to move forward in life; and
  WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that  when  indi-
viduals  and  organizations  of  such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated  and  recognized  by
all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the You Can Go to College Committee upon  the  occasion  of  its
First  Annual  Pre-Mother's  Day Banquet, and honoring this year's Guest
Speaker Auntie Zeituni Onyango on April 28, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the You Can Go to College Committee, and Zeituni Onyango.
