LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Angela Jones upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2013 Seneca County Senior Citizen of the
Year Award by the Seneca County Office for the Aging

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and  knowledge  to
the  increasingly  active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with  its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to honor
Angela Jones upon the occasion of her designation as  recipient  of  the
2013 Seneca County Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Seneca County
Office  for  the  Aging, to be celebrated at its Senior Citizen's Day on
Friday, May 10, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, Angela Jones was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by  the
Waterloo  Middle  School Advisement Group, showing that she has not only
made an impact in the lives of senior citizens, but also an impressiona-
ble impact on today's youth; and
  WHEREAS, A loving grandmother of  three,  Angela  Jones  has  attained
numerous  accomplishments  throughout  her  life, including serving as a
language teacher for 39 years, an author  of  many  books,  a  respected
lecturer  to  retired teachers and senior citizen groups, a travel agent
specializing in senior citizen trips, the founder and volunteer  coordi-
nator  of  the  Snapettes Twirling Corporation, along with serving as an
invaluable Celebrate Commemorate Memorial Day Committee member; and
  WHEREAS, As a Spanish teacher, Angela Jones traveled  extensively  and
brought  back  teachable  moments and items to make learning fun for her
students; she also organized and chaperoned many Spanish Club trips; and
  WHEREAS, As an author, Angela Jones  last  booklet  is  entitled,  OLD
AGE...NOT FOR ME!; people of all ages are inspired when they read it and
it  is  perfect  for  all  senior citizens; as a travel coordinator, she
encourages and arranges for seniors to travel not only within the United
States, but abroad as well, including Mexico, one of her favorite desti-
nations; and
  WHEREAS, At age 86, Angela Jones continues to lecture around New  York
State on her favorite topic "Days of the Dead"; with the Snapettes being
a very important part of her life, over the past 30 years, she has coor-
dinated  the  volunteers,  fundraising activities, uniforms and competi-
tions; and
  WHEREAS, A charter committee member of the Celebrate Commemorate Memo-
rial Day event, Angela Jones also sits on the  essay  judging  committee
with  other retired teachers, who judge the hundreds of essays submitted
by youth in grades 3-12; with all of her involvement with today's youth,
she has certainly bridged the  gap  between  young  and  old  alike  and
through  those activities, she has been an admirable advocate for senior
citizens; and
  WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Angela Jones's distinguished  record
merits  the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
and
  WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly  recog-
nize  and commend those who have witnessed and contributed to the devel-
opments and achievements of our Nation, State, and communities over  the
course of their noteworthy lives; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Angela Jones upon the occasion of her designation as recipient  of
the  2013  Seneca  County Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Seneca
County Office for the Aging; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Angela Jones.
