Honoring Angela Jones on being selected as Seneca County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year

LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Angela Jones upon the occasion of being
selected as Seneca County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and  knowledge  to
the  increasingly  active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor  Angela  Jones
upon the occasion of being selected as Seneca County's 2013 Senior Citi-
zen  of  the  Year  for  her  outstanding contributions to her community
through her valuable and much appreciated volunteer work; and
  WHEREAS, As Seneca County's 2013 Senior Citizen of  the  Year,  Angela
Jones  will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon hosted by the State Office for the Aging  (SOFA)  at  the  Hart
Theatre  Lounge  in  the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 7, 2013;
  WHEREAS, The theme for this year's event, Unleash the  Power  of  Age,
recognizes  the  potential  energies  of  older individuals which can be
unleashed through civic engagement to address pressing social and commu-
nity needs; and
  WHEREAS, Angela Jones lives in Waterloo, New  York,  and  has  offered
inspirational,  compassionate,  and  outstanding  service  during her 86
years of life as a language teacher, author, lecturer, and travel  agent
specializing in senior trips; and
  WHEREAS, She also founded and is a 30-year volunteer for the Snapettes
Twirling  Corp  and is an invaluable member of the Celebrate Commemorate
Memorial Day Charter Committee; and
  WHEREAS, Angela Jones has authored a book entitled, OLD AGE...NOT  FOR
ME!,  and  lectures around the state on her favorite topic, "Days of the
Dead" which is related to the origin of Memorial Day; and
  WHEREAS, In her various roles, she spends her time arranging trips for
seniors in and out of the United States; in her role as  Chairperson  of
various  committees  she  is  vital to the success of Waterloo community
events by recruiting and coordinating volunteers  to  greet  and  assist
visitors,  supervising  the children's game tent, and performing as part
of the Snapettes; and
  WHEREAS, Angela Jones has inspired Seneca  AAA  staff,  who  feel  she
embodies  the qualities of what outstanding service is; her three grand-
children, of whom she is very proud and who attend community events with
her, appreciate they have a very special role model to look up to; and
  WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Angela Jones's distinguished  record
merits  the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Angela  Jones upon the occasion of being selected as Seneca Coun-
ty's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Angela Jones.
