LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Eileen Barnes upon the occasion of being
selected as Clinton County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS,  Senior  citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society;  their  past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Eileen Barnes
upon the occasion of being selected  as  Clinton  County's  2013  Senior
Citizen  of  the Year, in recognition of her invaluable contributions to
the community through her outstanding, and much  appreciated,  volunteer
work; and
  WHEREAS,  As  Clinton County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year, Eileen
Barnes will participate in the Annual New York State Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon, hosted by the State Office for the Aging (SOFA), at  the  Hart
Theatre  Lounge  in  the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 7, 2013;
and
  WHEREAS, Eileen Barnes was born and raised in  the  Bronx  and  was  a
Vietnam  era  military  wife; she then raised three children as a single
mother, holding down three jobs while earning a degree from Pace Univer-
sity to become one of the  first  woman  traders  on  Wall  Street;  she
finished  her  paid career as a training supervisor for nine counties in
Central New York with the Experience Works Program; and
  WHEREAS, Eileen Barnes has been committed  to  serving  her  community
through volunteerism for an exemplary 54 years; and
  WHEREAS,  Eileen Barnes works with RSVP, serving on its Advisory Coun-
cil, being a volunteer tax preparer and acting as a bill pay manager for
seniors; she is also a docent at SUNY Plattsburgh Art Museum and  serves
as  Secretary  of  the  Executive  Committee  of  Plattsburgh  State Art
Docents; in addition, she volunteers with both SUNY Partners  In  Cross-
Cultural Learning, and Program for African Growth through Education, has
volunteered  as a domestic violence advocate and is a past president and
volunteer of Family Promise, an ecumenical organization  which  provided
shelter to homeless families; and
  WHEREAS,  A true asset to society, Eileen Barnes' distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative  Body;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eileen Barnes upon the occasion of being selected as Clinton Coun-
ty's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eileen Barnes.
