LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Loretta Sharpstene upon the occasion of
being selected as St. Lawrence County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and  knowledge  to
the  increasingly  active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor  Loretta
Sharpstene  upon the occasion of being selected as St. Lawrence County's
2013 Senior Citizen of  the  Year,  in  recognition  of  her  invaluable
contributions  to the community through her outstanding, and much appre-
ciated, volunteer work; and
  WHEREAS, As St. Lawrence County's 2013 Senior  Citizen  of  the  Year,
Loretta  Sharpstene will participate in the Annual New York State Senior
Citizens Day Luncheon, hosted by the State Office for the Aging  (SOFA),
at the Hart Theatre Lounge in the Egg, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May
7, 2013; and
  WHEREAS,  Loretta  Sharpstene  was  born  in  Clare, New York, and now
resides in Russell, New York; a nurse,  she,  along  with  her  husband,
operated  Hermon  Home  Care  for many years; she is the proud mother of
three children; and
  WHEREAS, Loretta Sharpstene has been a committed and active  volunteer
in her community for more than 50 years; and
  WHEREAS, Loretta Sharpstene is President of Russell Senior Club, where
she encourages seniors to enjoy life by going on trips and seeing plays;
she  has  also been an active church volunteer for many years, providing
altar flower arrangements, assisting at spaghetti  suppers,  and  volun-
teering  with the children's summer camp; moreover, this generous volun-
teer makes shawls,  sweaters  and  hats  for  low  income  seniors,  and
provides transportation for many seniors to recreational functions; and
  WHEREAS,  A  true asset to society, Loretta Sharpstene's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Loretta  Sharpstene  upon  the  occasion of being selected as St.
Lawrence County's 2013 Senior Citizen of the Year; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Loretta Sharpstene.
