LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Cypress
Hills Local Development Corporation

WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to organizations and individuals  of  high  purpose  and  worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have a significant impact on the lives of
others and the communities they serve; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commem-
orate the 30th Anniversary of the Cypress Hills Local Development Corpo-
ration  on  Thursday,  May 23, 2013, at the Brooklyn Winery in Brooklyn,
New York; and
  WHEREAS, Founded in 1983, the Cypress Hills Local  Development  Corpo-
ration  is  a  not-for-profit community organization serving 8,000 resi-
dents a year through a comprehensive array of community service programs
and neighborhood development projects; and
  WHEREAS, Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation Career and Educa-
tion Programs help residents earn their GEDs, learn English, develop job
and career skills, and find employment through a wide suite of programs;
  WHEREAS, One of the organization's notable programs is the COACH Young
Adult Internship Program, a youth and career development  program  aimed
at  providing  the  most job-ready of New York City's disconnected young
adults with the skills and experience necessary to  succeed  in  today's
competitive  workforce; the program provides intensive employment prepa-
ration for young adults ages 17-24 who are not employed or  enrolled  in
school; a paid three-week orientation, the program is followed by a paid
11-week  internship,  and  upon  completion,  participants  receive nine
months of employment, education, and training services; and
  WHEREAS, In so effectively and creatively serving  the  Cypress  Hills
community,  the  Cypress  Hills Local Development Corporation has estab-
lished itself as a preeminent organization dedicated  to  enhancing  and
improving  the  community and justly merits the recognition and appreci-
ation of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the 30th Anniversary of the Cypress Hills Local Development
Corporation; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michelle Neugebauer, Executive Director, Cypress Hills  Local
Development Corporation.
