LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sergeant Darren W. Forbes upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of the William V. McDonagh Award on
May 16, 2013

WHEREAS,  The  quality  and  sanctity  of  community  life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is moved to  honor
those  who  preserve and protect such values, lauding particularly their
unwavering courage and dedication in  the  daily  performance  of  their
duties; and
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud to honor Sergeant
Darren W. Forbes upon the occasion of his designation  as  recipient  of
the  William  V.  McDonagh Award to be celebrated at the 37th Annual New
York State Police Superintendent's Commendation and Awards Day Ceremony,
to be held at the New York State Police Academy in Albany, New York,  on
Thursday, May 16, 2013; and
  WHEREAS,  Sergeant  Darren  W. Forbes, a 25 year veteran of Troop K in
Rhinebeck, New York, will receive this distinguished award  in  recogni-
tion of his exceptional community service efforts; and
  WHEREAS,  Sergeant  Darren W. Forbes entered the Division on March 28,
1988, currently serves as line Sergeant, and is the  Assistant  Troop  K
Emergency Management NCO; and
  WHEREAS,  In  addition, Sergeant Darren W. Forbes has been a volunteer
firefighter for 32 years, and coaches CYO basketball, as well as seventh
grade boys and girls softball; he began coaching the  softball  team  14
years ago, and is currently serving as the League President; and
  WHEREAS,  After  his 15 year-old daughter was saved while in gym class
by an AED, Sergeant Darren W. Forbes helped in acquiring  these  devices
for  the  athletic  fields within his town; over the past nine years, he
has also sponsored several blood drives at his fire company through  the
New York Blood Center; and
  WHEREAS,  As a member of the Division, Sergeant Forbes has served as a
Trooper, an investigator in the New York State Bureau of Criminal Inves-
tigation, and as a Sergeant in uniform since 2005; the dedication he has
for the safety of individuals within his community can  be  observed  by
his continued patrol of the neighborhood, both on and off duty; and
  WHEREAS,  Sergeant  Darren  W. Forbes has been involved in many of the
most critical incidents and emergencies that have occurred within Rhine-
beck, New York; he has received two Superintendent's Commendation Awards
in his career, an award which recognizes the  extraordinary  performance
of duty and exceptional contributions to the New York State Police; and
  WHEREAS,  In  keeping with the finest traditions of the New York State
Police, Trooper Darren W. Forbes has distinguished himself by his  exem-
plary achievement and outstanding performance on behalf of the community
he so faithfully and courageously serves; and
  WHEREAS,  The  dedicated  efforts  of public servants, such as Trooper
Darren W. Forbes, who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy of the full  praise  of
this  Legislative  Body  and  the  people of the State of New York; now,
therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Trooper  Darren W. Forbes upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the William V. McDonagh Award at the 37th Annual  New  York
State  Police  Superintendent's  Commendation and Awards Day Ceremony on
May 16, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trooper Darren W. Forbes.
