LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Trooper Daniel J. Hoffman upon the occa-
sion  of  his  designation  as recipient of the Brummer Award on May 16,
2013

WHEREAS, The quality  and  sanctity  of  community  life  are  cherished
values,  worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is moved to honor
those who preserve and protect such values, lauding  particularly  their
unwavering  courage  and  dedication  in  the daily performance of their
duties; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Trooper Daniel
J.  Hoffman, of Troop K, Poughkeepsie, New York, upon  the  occasion  of
his designation as recipient of the Brummer Award, the highest award for
bravery a member of the New York State Police can receive; and
  WHEREAS,  Trooper Daniel J. Hoffman received this high honor in recog-
nition of his courage and valor in the performance of duty at  the  37th
Annual State Police Superintendent's Commendation and Awards Day Ceremo-
ny,  held  at  the New York State Police Academy in Albany, New York, on
Thursday, May 16, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, On May 14, 2012, Trooper  Daniel  J.  Hoffman  and  a  fellow
Trooper  responded  to a possible burglary in progress at a residence in
the Town of LaGrange; and
  WHEREAS, Upon  arrival,  Trooper  Daniel  J.  Hoffman  approached  and
entered  the  residence through the front door; once inside he was imme-
diately attacked and knocked to  the  floor  by  a  masked  suspect  who
attempted  to repeatedly strike him with a sawed-off rifle with which he
was armed; and
  WHEREAS, When the suspect leveled the firearm at him,  Trooper  Daniel
J.  Hoffman  protected  himself  and discharged his firearm; the suspect
succumbed to his injuries, and four additional suspects involved in  the
home invasion robbery were later apprehended; and
  WHEREAS,  Trooper Daniel J. Hoffman is to be commended for the profes-
sionalism and courage he displayed on May 14, 2012; and
  WHEREAS, In keeping with the finest traditions of the New  York  State
Police, Trooper Daniel J. Hoffman has distinguished himself by his exem-
plary  and  outstanding  performance  on  behalf  of the community he so
faithfully and courageously serves; and
  WHEREAS, The dedicated efforts of public  servants,  such  as  Trooper
Daniel  J.  Hoffman, who unselfishly devote their lives to the preserva-
tion of order and the protection of others are worthy of the full praise
of this Legislative Body and the people of the State of New  York;  now,
therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper Daniel J. Hoffman upon the occasion of his designation  as
the  recipient  of  a  Brummer  Award  at the 37th Annual New York State
Police Superintendent's Commendation and Awards Day Ceremony on May  16,
2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Trooper Daniel J. Hoffman.
