LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending Robert D. Gorman upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of distinguished service to  the  WATER-
TOWN DAILY TIMES

WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the  stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body is justly proud to commend Robert D.
Gorman upon the occasion of his retirement after many years  of  distin-
guished service to the WATERTOWN DAILY TIMES; and
  WHEREAS, Robert D. Gorman began his professional career in South Caro-
lina;  in 1994, he served as Assistant Managing Editor for the WATERTOWN
DAILY TIMES; in 2001, he rose to the position of Managing Editor; and
  WHEREAS, In this capacity, Robert D. Gorman's  energy  and  enthusiasm
for  journalism helped to maintain the WATERTOWN DAILY TIMES' reputation
for excellence; he penned important stories of interest to the people of
Northern New York, as well as  mentoring  young  reporters  who  started
their careers at the publication; and
  WHEREAS,  Robert  D.  Gorman  has been recognized for his journalistic
talents through several awards, including  Journalist  of  the  Year  in
South  Carolina  in  1979,  and  since his employment with the WATERTOWN
DAILY TIMES, the publication has won numerous Associated  Press  awards;
and
  WHEREAS,  In  addition  to  his  career  at the WATERTOWN DAILY TIMES,
Robert D. Gorman has played an active  role  in  his  community  through
involvement with the Thompson Park Conservancy, the Center for Community
Studies  at  Jefferson Community College, the Hall of Achievement in the
Watertown City School District, and the American Red Cross; and
  WHEREAS, By maintaining his professional career as CEO of  the  United
Way of Northern New York, Robert D. Gorman will continue to both support
and make a positive impact on the North Country community; and
  WHEREAS,  Robert  D.  Gorman  has rendered faithful, conscientious and
valuable service to the WATERTOWN  DAILY  TIMES,  and  has  served  with
loyalty, honor and distinction; and
  WHEREAS, In his official acts, Robert D. Gorman was governed by a keen
sense  of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems, earn-
ing the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; now,  there-
fore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Robert D. Gorman upon the occasion of his retirement after  many
years  of  distinguished service to the WATERTOWN DAILY TIMES; and be it
further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robert D. Gorman.
