LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Dr. Peter Capone upon the occasion of
his induction into the Upstate Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of
Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  to  pay  tribute  to
outstanding  athletes  who  distinguish  themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining  unprecedented  success  and  the  highest
level of personal achievement; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing  traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Dr. Peter Capone upon the occasion of his  induction  into  the  Upstate
Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame; this auspicious occasion
will  be celebrated at the Double Tree Hotel in East Syracuse, New York,
on September 22, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, Originally from Watertown as part  of  the  extensive  Capone
wrestling  family,  Dr.  Peter  Capone  also  participated in soccer and
track; in 1979 and 1980, he won two New York State  Wrestling  Champion-
ships,  and was the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 1979 Championships;
and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Peter Capone also placed 2nd  at  the  FILA  Elite  World
Championships in the Freestyle in 1980; he was selected as a High School
All-American; and
  WHEREAS,  After high school, Dr. Peter Capone attended Hofstra Univer-
sity where he graduated with a degree in biology; while  there,  he  was
selected as a freshman All-American, and was a four-time finalist in the
ECC conference tournament and two-time MOW; and
  WHEREAS,  Dr.  Peter  Capone  is  a two-time NCAA Division I Wrestling
All-American placing 7th in 1983 and was  runner-up  in  1985;  he  also
placed  4th  in the AAU Senior National Championships, was a USWA Senior
All-American and participated in multiple Empire State  Games  Champion-
ships; and
  WHEREAS,  After  college, Dr. Peter Capone went on to Dental School at
SUNY Buffalo; while there, he was a four-year wrestling  grad  assistant
coach  for  the  Bulls, and helped coach his brother Jim to place 3rd in
the Division III nationals and 5th in Division II; and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Peter Capone joined  the  Riverside  Dental  practice  in
Binghamton  in 1990 and also coached Johnson City from 1990-2012; during
his tenure, his teams won  three  New  York  State  Team  Championships:
1999,  2003,  and 2006, 10 Section 4 Championships, 12 Class A Champion-
ships, and 14 STAC League Championships; his teams compiled a record  of
241-69-2; and
  WHEREAS, Having coached three National Champions, eight New York State
Champions, 41 New York State Place Winners, 47 Section IV Champions, and
five New York State Wildcards, one of Dr. Peter Capone's happiest coach-
ing  moments  was  coaching  his  son Peter to a New York State title in
2008; and
  WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Sue, and their  chil-
dren  Peter  and  Emily, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Dr. Peter Capone  for
his  extraordinary  athletic  and  coaching  accomplishments which are a
tribute to his skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  with
praise  and  pride  to  honor  Dr. Peter Capone upon the occasion of his
induction into the Upstate Chapter of the  National  Wrestling  Hall  of
Fame; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Peter Capone.
