LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Bill Higgins upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2013 Written Word Award by  the  Friends
of the Highland Falls Library on June 1, 2013

WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New  York  State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of individuals who
devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Bill
Higgins upon the occasion of his designation as recipient  of  the  2013
Written  Word  Award by the Friends of the Highland Falls Library, to be
celebrated on Saturday, June 1, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, The Written Word Award recognizes the exceptional talent  and
achievement of an author residing in the Highland Falls community; and
  WHEREAS,  Bill  Higgins  is  a  hometown  poet  laureate  whose poetry
captures the personality of his neighbors and the Hudson Valley; two  of
his locally inspired pieces will be read at the event; and
  WHEREAS,  Bill Higgins has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Bill Higgins has displayed  through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bill Higgins upon the occasion of his designation as recipient  of
the  2013  Written  Word  Award  by  the  Friends  of the Highland Falls
Library; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bill Higgins.
