ATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Bay Ridge Community Council upon casion of its 60th Anniversary S, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the y and character of life in the communities across New York State flective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations ndividuals who distinguish themselves in service to their communi- d EAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long- ng traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend y Ridge Community Council upon the occasion of its 60th Anniver- to be celebrated at its 60th Annual Dinner Dance, to be held at El Country Club in Brooklyn on Thursday, June 9, 2011; and EAS, The Bay Ridge Community Council was organized in 1951 to e the moral, social and economic welfare of the people of Bay Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton; each of its more than 100 member zations appoints delegates to represent them at the Council; and EAS, Throughout the year the Bay Ridge Community Council sponsors vents and other activities; its Halloween Art Contest and Track ield Meet were introduced in 1952; over the years other events ing the Community Picnic, Essay Contest, Photography Contest, Make erence Day and, most recently, in 2009, the Bay Ridge Night at the e's Game events have been introduced and enjoyed by many; and EAS, The Kassenbrock Brothers Memorial Scholarship Fund, estab- in 1972, awards grants-in-aid to civic-minded college bound high seniors and grants to graduates of elementary and intermediate s annually; awards, including the Morris Charney Science Award and ttie Charney Humanities Award are given annually as well; and EAS, The Bay Ridge Community Council has also held public forums h topics as Child Abuse, Apartment Cooperative Conversions, the ork City Transit System, the Gowanus and Fifth Avenue Recon- ion Projects and Crime Prevention for Senior Citizens as well as on year debates for candidates for public office and forums open school board candidates in Community School District 20; and EAS, Health Fairs and Forums on such subjects as Drug and Alcohol Skin Cancer, Hypertension, Smoking, Glaucoma, Mental Health, Domestic Violence, Catastrophic Health Insurance, Diets and Diet- Health Care Options, and West Nile Virus have also been conducted e similar forums on such environmental matters as the Owls Head Treatment Plant, Truck Route Management and the Community Impact ion Study; and EAS, Additionally, the Council has proudly sponsored the planting re than 1,000 street trees, the Dyker Park clean-up of rodents and ns, Graffiti Clean Ups, and the "It's the law-Clean Up After Your rogram; and EAS, Equally proudly, the Bay Ridge Community Council considers ccessful campaign to save Fort Hamilton, its opposition to the uction of Sunset Park Sludge Plant, its facilitation of the State Committee on Crime hearings in the community, and its assistance e establishment of the Child Safe Program with the Alliance of Associations and the 68th Precinct to be among its many signif- accomplishments; and EAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and d organizations such as the Bay Ridge Community Council which work t the needs of their community and its citizens with diligence and sionate commitment to improving the quality of life in the commu- now, therefore, be it LVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to d the Bay Ridge Community Council upon the occasion of the cele- n of its 60th Anniversary at its 60th Annual Dinner Dance on June 1; and be it further LVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- d to the Bay Ridge Community Council.
