LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Jonathan Ray upon the occasion of being
named the Geneva Boys & Girls Club 2013 Youth of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize  and  pay
tribute  to  those  young  people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and  who  serve  as  role
models for their peers; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor
Jonathan  Ray  upon  the occasion of being named the Geneva Boys & Girls
Club 2013 Youth of the Year; and
  WHEREAS, Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a  Boys  &
Girls  Club  member  can  receive; the nomination recognizes outstanding
contributions to a member's family, school, community and Boys  &  Girls
Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; the hono-
rees  are  shining examples and living proof that great futures start at
Boys & Girls Clubs; and
  WHEREAS, Jonathan Ray has been a wonderful member of the Boys &  Girls
Club  in Geneva for approximately four years; having to overcome several
obstacles, he has truly emerged as a very positive and  admirable  asset
to the Club; and
  WHEREAS,  Since  becoming  a  member, Jonathan Ray has volunteered for
events such as the Musselman, a local tri-athletic competition, and  has
tutored  club members; he is always willing to step in and help out with
other activities such as Triple Play initiative, a  club  curriculum  to
develop  mind,  body  and soul, and Passport to Manhood, a club group to
help young men learn life skills; and
  WHEREAS, When he is not at the Club, Jonathan Ray helps out his family
and friends by babysitting, tutoring and mentoring; and
  WHEREAS, Jonathan Ray is a ninth grade student at Geneva High  School;
an  excellent student, he maintains an average grade of about 91.5 while
taking three pre-AP classes and two advanced classes in both mathematics
and science; athletically, he is involved in football and lacrosse,  and
basketball  on occasion; upon graduating, he plans to attend college and
become a teacher; and
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the  youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify  the  ideals  and  values  cherished  by  this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Jonathan  Ray  upon the occasion of being named the Geneva Boys &
Girls Club 2013 Youth of the Year; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jonathan Ray.
