LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring NYPD Officer Marco Venezia upon the
occasion of his retirement

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor NYPD Officer
Marco Venezia upon the occasion of his retirement, to be celebrated on
Friday, June 10, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Marco Venezia is a native Brooklynite who joined the New York
City Police Department in April of 1991; although he spent his first
year in another precinct, he has spent most of his career in the 68th
Precinct; and
WHEREAS, Marco Venezia was a Patrol Officer until 2000 when he was
assigned to the Community Policing Unit; after two years, he then moved
into his current position as the Planning Officer in the Community
Affairs Unit where he tirelessly serves the communities of Bay Ridge,
Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton; and
WHEREAS, Marco Venezia has been dedicated to fostering police-communi-
ty relations and bolstering cooperation between the two entities in
order to make the neighborhoods he has served a better place to live and
work; and
WHEREAS, Marco Venezia has received numerous departmental awards,
including Police Officer of the Month on several occasions and has
received citations from various community groups; he also was honored by
being named as one of the "Hidden Treasures of the Community" by the Bay
Ridge Community Council; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Maryann, and their
three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor NYPD Officer Marco Venezia upon the occasion of his retirement;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to NYPD Officer Marco Venezia.
