LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending Dance Theatre Etcetera upon the occa-
sion of hosting the 20th Annual Red Hook Fest on May 30-June 1, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative  Body  to  honor  and  pay
tribute  to  those  organizations  whose commitment and creative talents
contribute to the cultural enrichment and entertainment of their  commu-
nity and the entire State of New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
Dance  Theatre Etcetera upon the occasion of hosting the 20th Annual Red
Hook Fest on May 30-June 1, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, This open-air festival held on the Red Hook Waterfront is  to
celebrate  the accomplishments of some 200 plus young people in perform-
ing arts programs across New York City and enjoy performances by some of
the most powerful progressive artists in America; and
  WHEREAS, Dance Theatre Etcetera has proudly served the Red Hook commu-
nity since 1992, gaining national attention for making the arts a  crit-
ical component of urban renewal efforts in the area; and
  WHEREAS, Premised on the belief that the arts are an effective vehicle
for  social  transformation,  Dance  Theatre Etcetera unites artists and
community members as co-creators in dynamic cultural activities; and
  WHEREAS, Through site-specific performances,  festivals,  parades  and
performing  arts  and  media  education programs, Dance Theatre Etcetera
stimulates the social imagination through acts of  informed  expression;
and
  WHEREAS,  As  a  leader  in the field of arts education, Dance Theatre
Etcetera offers innovative programming to over  700  students  annually;
working  in underserved areas throughout Brooklyn, it reaches over 6,000
additional Brooklynites each year through festivals, parades and  unique
site-specific performances; and
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative Body, representing the people of the State
of New York, recognizes the importance of the performing arts, which act
to inspire, enlighten and unify people  from  all  cultural  backgrounds
through the transcendent power of human expression; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend  Dance  Theatre  Etcetera  upon the occasion of hosting the 20th
Annual Red Hook Fest on May 30-June 1, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Martha Bowers, Executive Director, Dance Theatre Etcetera.
