LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION recognizing Mu Hwan Kim upon the occasion of his
designation as a 2013 Memorial Day Distinguished Veteran Honoree

WHEREAS, It is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  to  acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community  service  are  an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
  WHEREAS, Members and former members  of  the  Armed  Services  of  the
United States and its allies from the State of New York, who have served
so  valiantly  and honorably in wars in which this country's freedom was
at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace time, deserve
a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
Mu Hwan Kim upon the occasion of his designation as a 2013 Memorial  Day
Distinguished  Veteran  Honoree;  this auspicious occasion will be cele-
brated on Monday, May 27, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, President of Vietnam War Veterans Association of New York, Mu
Hwan Kim was born in Gun wi, Kyun gsang book do, Korea;  at  age  15  he
moved  to  Seoul  and  worked at the Army supply company while attending
high school; and
  WHEREAS, In 1965 Mu Hwan Kim enrolled in the Republic  of  Korea  Army
and  served  alongside  United States Armed Forces in the Vietnam war as
part of the Menho Fighting Tiger unit; in 1967, he again served  in  the
Vietnam War in the Beckma White Horse unit; and
  WHEREAS,  After  36  months  of wartime duty, Mu Hwan Kim retired as a
sergeant in the Republic of Korea Army; and
  WHEREAS, In 1988, Mu Hwan Kim immigrated to New York City  and  joined
the  Vietnam War Veterans Association of New York; he has been an active
member for sixteen years; and
  WHEREAS, Mu Hwan Kim serves as the 9th President of Vietnam War Veter-
ans Association of New York; he is instrumental in having all members of
the association united and working together; and
  WHEREAS, Mu Hwan Kim has been honored for his participation with  both
the  Menho  Fighting  Tiger  and Beckma White Horse units in the Vietnam
war; he also received awards of the divisional commander and  regimental
commander; and
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  entire period of his military, professional
and community service, a period of constructive involvement, Mu Hwan Kim
has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned  the
respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; and
  WHEREAS,  Our veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and thanked
by the people of the State of New York for their service and  for  their
dedication; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Mu Hwan Kim upon the occasion of his  designation  as  a  2013
Memorial Day Distinguished Veteran Honoree; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mu Hwan Kim.
