Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Ketewomoke Yacht Club

LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Kete-
womoke Yacht Club to be celebrated on June 8, 2013

WHEREAS, Recreational boating is fun as well as an enjoyable activity in
which many New York State  residents  actively  participate  during  the
summer months; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge organizations of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the complexion  of  this  majestic  Empire
State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commem-
orate  the  100th  Anniversary  of the Ketewomoke Yacht Club to be cele-
brated on Saturday, June 8, 2013; a Flag Raising ceremony will  be  held
followed by an Open House, two special event set up to provide a marvel-
ous way to relax and celebrate the Club's past; and
  WHEREAS,  The Ketewomoke Yacht Club was founded in 1913, and makes its
home in the oldest yacht club building in continuous use on Long Island;
  WHEREAS, The Ketewomoke Yacht Club was originally built on pilings  in
Huntington Harbor, but is now dry docked on a parcel of land on New York
Avenue in Huntington; and
  WHEREAS, This pleasurable Club continues to be a working Club, managed
and supported entirely by its members; and
  WHEREAS,  The  name  Ketewomoke  has  a history that dates back to the
Matinecock Indians, the tribe that lived in the Huntington  region  from
Flushing Bay to Nissequogue River in Smithtown; and
  WHEREAS,  The Indian name for the town known as Huntington Village was
Ketewomoke, meaning "where the sea flows"; and
  WHEREAS, The rich history of the Ketewomoke Yacht Club has  formed  it
into  the prominent organization it is today; in so effectively carrying
out its mission, the Club exemplifies a spirit of community  pride,  and
demonstrates  the  values  of hard work, cooperative effort and enduring
fellowship; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  100th  Anniversary  of the Ketewomoke Yacht Club to be
celebrated on June 8, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted the Ketewomoke Yacht Club.
