LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Laura Swanson upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award by
the Suffolk Association for Continuing Community Education on  June  10,
2013

WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those outstanding individuals  of  distinguished  purpose  whose
purposeful  lives  and  distinguished careers have been committed to the
pursuit of excellence in the education of the  citizens  of  this  great
Empire State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor
Laura  Swanson  upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award by  the  Suffolk  Association  for
Continuing  Community  Education  at  its  Awards Ceremony to be held on
Monday, June 10, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, The Suffolk Association for  Continuing  Community  Education
(SACCE)  was  founded  to  promote  lifelong  learning opportunities for
adults within Suffolk  County  and  beyond  the  county's  borders;  its
purpose is to advance adult education as a vital factor in adult growth,
development and fulfillment; and
  WHEREAS, Through the sharing of resources and ideas with colleagues in
the  Nassau  Association,  and  under the umbrella of the New York State
Association, SACCE strives to increase the recognition  of  and  respect
for  continuing  community education and its professionals; in addition,
it is the goal of the organization to exercise leadership in the advoca-
cy of adult community and continuing education at the local,  state  and
national levels; and
  WHEREAS,  A teacher of singular distinction and professionalism, Laura
Swanson has continually demonstrated extreme  competence,  extraordinary
intelligence,  and  diligent leadership in her unwavering service to her
community and profession and consequently, has been designated for  this
most prestigious honor; and
  WHEREAS,  Laura  Swanson  has been employed with Western Suffolk BOCES
since 1999; she  works  as  an  Adult  Career  and  Technical  Education
instructor  and  teaches  computer classes at Western Suffolk BOCES, the
Suffolk County Department of Labor, and corporations across Long Island,
as well as in libraries from Lakeville to West Hampton, New York; and
  WHEREAS, Laura Swanson is exceedingly knowledgeable in her field;  her
professionalism  far  exceeds expectations; she is very patient with her
students, and fosters a very productive and enjoyable learning  environ-
ment; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the  maintenance  of  high  standards  in  their
profession,  certainly have earned recognition and applause; now, there-
fore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor Laura Swanson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award by the Suffolk Association for
Continuing Community Education on June 10, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Laura Swanson.
