LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending Melanie Schmitt, upon the occasion of
being selected 2013 Salutatorian of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High  School
in recognition of her outstanding accomplishment

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today  --  the  leaders  of tomorrow -- whose character and achievements
exemplify the ideals and  values  cherished  by  this  great  State  and
Nation; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to  recognize
and  commend  Melanie  Schmitt,  upon the occasion of being selected the
2013 Salutatorian of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High  School,  Ravena,  New
York,  in  recognition of her outstanding academic performance and exem-
plary achievement; and
  WHEREAS, Melanie Schmitt is the loving daughter of Michael Schmitt and
Gina and Scott Andrews, and the proud sister of John and Stephanie; and
  WHEREAS, An avid volunteer, Melanie Schmitt assists  Religious  Educa-
tion  classes, Youth Group, and the Christian Leadership Institute (CLI)
at St.  Patrick's Church in Ravena, New York; she is a youth  member  of
the  parish  council, and has participated in several parish fundraising
events; and
  WHEREAS, Melanie Schmitt, actively involved in her school, is a member
of the soccer and bowling teams, and has been named  to  All-Star  Teams
for  both; she is a member and co-president of the National Honor Socie-
ty, plays clarinet and saxophone, and has been  involved  in  the  music
program since fifth grade; and
  WHEREAS,  This  exemplary  young  woman has excelled in her academics,
taking several advanced placement and  University  in  the  High  School
(UHS)  courses;  she  received  the  Presidential  Scholarship, and will
attend SUNY Oneonta in the Fall  where  she  will  major  in  Adolescent
Education and Mathematics; and
  WHEREAS,  Melanie Schmitt may now stand with pride as she assesses her
achievements, experiences the satisfaction of her labors and the joy  of
her  accomplishments, eager to face the new experiences of a challenging
world; and
  WHEREAS, This  exceptional  student  of  Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk  High
School  represents the potential inherent in our most precious resource,
our youth; her achievements have brought enduring honor  to  her  family
and community and should be recognized and saluted; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend students
of outstanding character who have shown initiative and a  commitment  to
constantly  pursuing higher goals for themselves, and act as role models
of leadership to be emulated by their peers; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend  Melanie  Schmitt,  upon the occasion of being selected the 2013
Salutatorian of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, in  recognition  of
her  outstanding  accomplishment, and to extend to her best wishes for a
future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Melanie Schmitt.
