LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Linda A. Townsend upon the occasion of
her designation  as  2013  Inductee  into  the  Auburn  Alumni  Hall  of
Distinction, on June 6, 2013

WHEREAS,  It  is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly  acknowledge  individuals  who  have  distinguished  themselves
through  their  exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to honor
Linda A. Townsend upon the occasion of her designation as 2013  Inductee
into  the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction; the Induction Ceremony will
take place on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Emerson  Park  Pavilion  in
Auburn, New York; and
  WHEREAS, The Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction was established in 2012
by  the  Auburn  Education  Foundation to recognize, honor and celebrate
graduates who have distinguished themselves through outstanding  academ-
ic,  professional, or civic achievements and to inspire current students
to pursue a path towards personal success; and
  WHEREAS, A woman of singular merit, Linda  A.  Townsend,  Auburn  High
Class  of  1971,  has  continually  demonstrated  tremendous competence,
extraordinary intelligence and diligent  leadership  in  her  unwavering
service  to  both her community and her profession, and consequently has
been selected for this most prestigious honor; and
  WHEREAS, Linda A. Townsend's noteworthy professional life spans multi-
ple fields of accomplishment and endeavor; and
  WHEREAS, She has been  employed  by  the  Port  Byron  Central  School
District  for  more  than  20 years; currently a teacher at Dana L. West
High School, Linda Townsend has received national  recognition  for  her
expertise  and  scholarship, including her selection for: The Street Law
U.S. Supreme Court Fellowship, Ford's Theater Lincoln Fellowship and the
Foundation for Teaching Economics and the Environment, as  well  as  her
selection as the first New York State teacher to be a Horace Mann Fellow
at the Lincoln Presidential Museum, among many other honors; and
  WHEREAS,  Prior to being an educator, Linda Townsend worked with Legal
Services of Central New York, and John M. Caster, Esq., helping  econom-
ically disadvantaged citizens in Cayuga County; and
  WHEREAS,  In 1983, Linda Townsend was elected a Cayuga County Legisla-
tor and, in 1985, she was elected Chairperson of the County Legislature,
the first woman to ever hold that  post;  she  proudly  served  on  that
esteemed  body  for  10 years, and her exceptional commitment during her
service earned her the Cayuga County Senior Citizens Council Outstanding
Elected Official Award in 1985; and
  WHEREAS, Linda Townsend volunteers her talents as a vocal performer to
many civic organizations throughout the community; she has  also  served
on various community boards over the last 30 years; and
  WHEREAS,  Linda  Townsend  earned  an  associate's  degree in Criminal
Justice and an associate's degree in Liberal Arts Humanities from Auburn
Community College (now Cayuga Community College); she  achieved  a  dual
Bachelor  of  Arts  degree  in Political Science and Public Justice from
SUNY Oswego, a Juris Doctorate degree from Syracuse  University  College
of Law, and dual certification in English and Social Studies; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought  to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Linda  A.  Townsend  upon the occasion of her designation as 2013
Inductee into the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Linda A. Townsend.
