LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Dr.  David Kolva upon the occasion of
being named the 2013 Family Practice Educator of the Year

WHEREAS, Dr. David Kolva was recognized  as  the  2013  Family  Practice
Educator of the Year by the New York State Academy of Family Physicians;
and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Kolva is a clinical associate professor in the Department
of Family Practice for SUNY Upstate Medical University; and
  WHEREAS,  Dr.  Kolva  began  his  career in 1984 in Port City, when no
other doctors in the area were accepting new patients; and
  WHEREAS, He thereafter served for 20 years as a  general  practitioner
of family medicine in the Oswego community; and
  WHEREAS, In 2004, Dr. Kolva took his career in a new direction when he
retired  from private practice to teach full time at St. Joseph's Hospi-
tal Health Center; and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Kolva has always taken great  pride  in  his  role  as  a
medical  educator,  encouraging  students  to spend time with him on his
family practice rounds; and
  WHEREAS, Dr, Kolva previously won multiple teaching  awards  while  at
St.  Joseph's Hospital and has dedicated himself to improving the educa-
tion  curriculum  for  the next generation of medical students and resi-
dents; and
  WHEREAS, A lifetime member of the American Academy  of  Family  Physi-
cians,  Dr.  Kolva was awarded the NYSAFP Physician of the Year Award in
2000; and
  WHEREAS, Dr. Kolva and his wife live in Oswego, New York,  where  they
raised three children; and
  WHEREAS,  Dr.  Kolva  has always demonstrated a love for his community
and strong commitment to leadership  in  encouraging  his  students  and
medical residents to pursue a career in family medicine; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought  to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Dr.  David Kolva upon the occasion of being named the 2013 Family
Practice Educator of the Year by the New York State  Academy  of  Family
Physicians; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. David Kolva.
