LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending The Reverend John P. Fahey, Jr. upon
the occasion of his retirement after many years of distinguished service
as Pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, Lynbrook, New York

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community  life  in
this  noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit  their  energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition  and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The Reverend
John P. Fahey, Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement after many  years
of distinguished service as Pastor of St. James United Methodist Church,
Lynbrook,  New  York,  to be celebrated at a dinner held in his honor on
Thursday, June 13, 2013, at The Knights of Columbus Hall, Lynbrook,  New
York; and
  WHEREAS,  Born  June  13, 1941, in Glen Cove, New York, Pastor John P.
Fahey, Jr. entered the Ministry of the United Methodist Church in  1980;
and
  WHEREAS,  He  served  as Pastor of Carpenter Memorial United Methodist
Church in Glen Cove, New York, and then of  Riverhead  United  Methodist
Church, Riverhead, New York; and
  WHEREAS,  In July of 2000, Pastor John P. Fahey, Jr.  was appointed to
St.  James United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served until his
retirement in June of 2013; and
  WHEREAS, Pastor John P. Fahey, Jr. has  brought  to  his  ministry  an
overwhelming  spirit  of  charity and compassion, acting from vision and
enlightenment in conducting his  administrative  and  spiritual  duties,
while  always  displaying  the highest standards of personal and profes-
sional integrity and dedication; and
  WHEREAS, Pastor John  P.  Fahey,  Jr.  served  the  Long  Island  West
District  of  the  UMC as Chairman of their Parish Development Committee
and Registrar of the District Board of Ordained Ministry; and
  WHEREAS, He also served on the Board  of  Directors  of  the  Brooklyn
United  Methodist  Church  Home  and  the  Far Rockaway United Methodist
Center; and
  WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, Pastor John P. Fahey, Jr.  has  served
as  an  instructor of Lay Speakers for the District School of Lay Speak-
ing; and
  WHEREAS, Locally, he is a Past President of the Lynbrook/East Rockaway
Rotary Club, Secretary of the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Clergy Association,
and Chaplain for The  Lynbrook  Fire  Department,  The  Lynbrook  Police
Department,  and  Lynbrook-Massapequa Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons;
and
  WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and  has  adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal needs of
all; and
  WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 49 years, Jean, and
their  two  sons,  Edmond  and  Patrick,  as well as five grandchildren,
Cullen, Catherine, Megan, Dillon and Caroline, all of whom  feel  privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is

appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend  that  indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Reverend John P. Fahey, Jr. upon the occasion of his retire-
ment after many years of distinguished service as Pastor of St.    James
United  Methodist Church, noting his unremitting and compassionate faith
and his exemplary service to God, man, and his community, and  extending
to  him  the heartfelt best wishes of this Legislative Body for a future
of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Reverend John P. Fahey, Jr.
