LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  the  Fireman's Fund Insurance Company
upon the occasion of celebrating its 150th year of business in 2013

WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the economic well-being and interests
of the people of this great Empire State merit the commendation of  this
Legislative Body; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the  communities  across  New  York
State  are  enhanced  by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business
organizations and individuals that generously contribute to the  welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor  the
Fireman's  Fund  Insurance  Company upon the occasion of celebrating its
150th year of business in 2013; and
  WHEREAS, The Fireman's Fund Insurance Company is  a  premier  property
and  casualty insurance company providing personal and commercial insur-
ance products nationwide; and
  WHEREAS, The Fireman's Fund Insurance  Company  insures  thousands  of
homes and businesses in New York State; and
  WHEREAS,  Founded  in 1863 with the social mission to support the fire
service arranging to pay 10 per cent of company profits  to  assist  the
widows  and orphans of fallen firefighters, the Fireman's Fund Insurance
Company continued to honor firefighters  by  establishing  its  Heritage
Program  in  2004  to support firefighters by providing grants for vital
equipment and training; and
  WHEREAS, The Heritage Program of the Fireman's Fund Insurance  Company
has  awarded millions of dollars in grants throughout the United States,
including $ 1.8 million in New York; and
  WHEREAS, In 1895, the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company established its
New York connection with the opening of the Atlantic Marine  department;
and
  WHEREAS,  Many  of  the  country's most famous New York and East Coast
based icons and events have been insured by the Fireman's Fund Insurance
Company, including Radio City Music Hall, the Statue  of  Liberty  reno-
vation,  the  Spirit of St. Louis non-stop flight from New York to Paris
in 1927, and the 1971 World Heavyweight championship fight  between  Joe
Frazier and Muhammad Ali; and
  WHEREAS, The Fireman's Fund Insurance Company has been an innovator in
providing  a  wide  range  of  insurance;  in 1906, it created the first
nationally available  automobile  insurance  for  American  drivers;  it
offered  the  first  airplane  insurance  policy in the United States in
1913, and earned a national reputation for its hurricane coverage; and
  WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a  unique  opportunity  for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Fireman's Fund
Insurance Company; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when business
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to  our
attention,  they  should be recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  the  Fireman's  Fund Insurance Company upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 150th year of business in 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.
