LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  congratulating  Police  Officer Dorrin Ferguson
upon the occasion of her promotion to  detective  after  many  years  of
distinguished service as a member of the New York City Police Department

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public  service,  demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities  and  this
great Empire State; and
  WHEREAS,  Within  every  community  of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment  and  dedication,
command  the  respect  and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate  Police
Officer  Dorrin Ferguson upon the occasion of her promotion to detective
after many years of distinguished service as a member of  the  New  York
City Police Department; and
  WHEREAS,  Police  Officer Dorrin Ferguson is currently assigned to the
New York Police Department Community Affairs Unit in the 113th Precinct,
and serves as a liaison to  foster  working  relationships  between  the
Police Department and the Jamaica, Queens, neighborhood; and
  WHEREAS, A veteran of more than 18 years of distinguished and commend-
able  service as a member of the New York City Police Department, Police
Officer Dorrin Ferguson's responsibilities  also  include  training  new
Impact  Response  Team  police  officers,  planning major events such as
National Night Out Against Crime, and the community children's Halloween
party; and
  WHEREAS, Prior to her current position, Police Officer Dorrin Ferguson
served 14 years in patrol and one year in the 113th Precinct's  COMPSTAT
unit; and
  WHEREAS,  In  May  2001, Police Officer Dorrin Ferguson was recognized
for her unselfish actions towards fellow officers of the 113th Precinct;
on November 26, 2008, she was honored as "Cop  of  the  Month"  and  was
presented The Edward R. Byrne Memorial Award for outstanding performance
above the call of duty; and
  WHEREAS,  Born in Jamaica, West Indies, Police Officer Dorrin Ferguson
migrated to the United States in 1981; she is a  graduate  of  Hempstead
High  School, Nassau Community College and SUNY College of Old Westbury;
and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to  the  preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Police Officer Dorrin Ferguson upon  the  occasion  of  her
promotion  to  detective  after many years of distinguished service as a
member of the New York City Police Department; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Police Officer Dorrin Ferguson.
