LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Ronald "Ronnie" Mailman upon the occa-
sion of his retirement after 46 years of dedicated service in education

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is  unparalleled;  its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and  academic  excellence  in  the  young
people of New York State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor
Ronald  "Ronnie"  Mailman  upon  the occasion of his retirement after 46
years of dedicated service in education; and
  WHEREAS, Ronnie Mailman has been  instrumental  in  the  education  of
students  and support of staff and families in District 16 for 46 years;
he began his District 16 career at PS 81 then transferred to PS 25 where
he served as a teacher, Chapter Leader, and Delegate  and  advocated  on
behalf of the children; and
  WHEREAS,  He  has  led  many  efforts  on behalf of education over the
years, including fighting against closing schools, budget cuts, and  the
cutting  of  school  programs;  his  dedicated  service to the children,
teachers and families of District 16 has been  invaluable  and,  he  has
worked  steadfastly  to unite the District 16 community on behalf of the
education and social molding of its students; and
  WHEREAS, Ronald Mailman is the UFT's longest serving  active  District
Representative, serving for 40 years, since 1973; he is the recipient of
the UFT's prestigious Trachtenberg and Smallheiser Awards; he has been a
member  of the UFT Executive Committee since 1973, as well as a Delegate
to the NYSUT and AFT conventions; and
  WHEREAS, He has served as a member of  multiple  contract  negotiation
committees  and  District  Leadership Teams and has been a vocal partic-
ipant at Community Board meetings and UFT lobbying trips to Albany; and
  WHEREAS, Ronnie Mailman is truly steeped in the cause of education and
the work of the union; he is proud that his wife and two of his children
work in New York City public schools and, he is  particularly  proud  to
have  seen several of his former students become teachers, including one
who is also a Chapter Leader; and
  WHEREAS, Educators such as Ronald Mailman provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring  generations  of  young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
  WHEREAS,  Ronald  Mailman  has  clearly  had an enduring impact on the
youth of District 16, as well as on the community-at-large, and  accord-
ingly  merits  recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to
others; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  commend  the
efforts of individuals who work to support our proud tradition of public
education  by  providing  their  skills and talents to our schools; now,
therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor  Ronald Mailman upon the occasion of his retirement after 46 years
of dedicated service in education; for his significant contributions  to
education in New York State; and to wish him continued success in all of
his future endeavors; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ronald Mailman.
