LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Annabella Sciorra upon the occasion of
being selected as the 2013 Italian-American Day Honoree

WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment that provide
opportunities to celebrate their rich ethnic flavor and which strive  to
preserve their cultural heritage; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
Annabella Sciorra upon the occasion of being selected as the 2013 Itali-
an-American Day Honoree; and
  WHEREAS,  Born  Annabella  Gloria  Philomena  Sciorra in Brooklyn, New
York, to a housewife mother and a veterinarian father; Annabella Sciorra
studied dance as a child and began taking  drama  lessons  as  she  grew
older  at  Hagen-Berghoff  Studio  and  the American Academy of Dramatic
Arts, both in New York City; and
  WHEREAS, On November 5, 1981, at the  age  of  21,  Annabella  Sciorra
founded  the  Brass  Ring Theater Company; an American film, television,
and stage actress with strong Italian roots, she received an Independent
Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead for  the  1989  film  "True
Love",  and  came  to  widespread attention in her co-lead role in Spike
Lee's 1991 film "Jungle Fever"; and
  WHEREAS, Annabella Sciorra starred in the 1992 thriller "The Hand That
Rocks The Cradle", and received critical acclaim for her  work  in  "Cop
Land";  she received an Emmy nomination for her role as Gloria Trillo in
the HBO series "The Sopranos"; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its
time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those  individ-
uals  who foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of cultural diver-
sity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of New York  State;
now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Annabella Sciorra upon the occasion of  being  selected  as  the
2013 Italian-American Day Honoree; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Annabella Sciorra.
