LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION paying tribute to Rabbi Daniel H. Mehlman and his
Rebbetzin  Mimi  Mehlman as they are honored by the Lido Beach Synagogue
at its 46th Annual Journal Dinner on Sunday, June 16, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize  and  pay
tribute  to  individuals  of  firm faith and commitment who have devoted
their untiring energy and purposeful lives in service  to  their  faith;
and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing  traditions,  this Legislative Body is pleased to commend Rabbi
Daniel H. Mehlman and his  wife  Rebbetzin  Mimi  Mehlman  as  they  are
honored by the Lido Beach Synagogue at its 46th Annual Journal Dinner on
Sunday, June 16, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, The synagogue is the common spiritual home of a congregation;
in  it  rests  the  heritage  of the Jewish people and from it stems the
teaching and the practice of its treasured values and traditions; and
  WHEREAS, The true architects of society and community are our spiritu-
al leaders whose faith and unremitting commitment serve to  sustain  and
enhance the spiritual and cultural values of life; and
  WHEREAS,  Rabbi  Daniel H. Mehlman and his Rebbetzin Mimi Mehlman have
distinguished themselves by their  sincere  dedication  and  substantial
contribution  to  the Lido Beach Synagogue and its congregants and truly
merit their recognition and appreciation; and
  WHEREAS, Rabbi Mehlman, an Alumnus of Yeshiva University, was ordained
at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and received a master's
degree in Hebrew Literature from the Bernard Revel Graduate School and a
Master of Social Work degree  from  the  Yeshiva  University  Wurzweiler
School of Social Work; in addition, he has earned his certification as a
Social Worker, L.C.S.W. and a Doctor of Psychology degree; and
  WHEREAS,  Rabbi  Mehlman  has  published  numerous  articles  and  has
lectured extensively on topics such as Psychological Problems of  Ortho-
dox  Jews in the Modern World, Children at Risk in the Orthodox Communi-
ty, and the Spiritual  Impact  on  the  Rehabilitation  Process  of  the
Mentally Challenged; and
  WHEREAS,  His professional affiliations include the Rabbinical Council
of America, the  Yeshiva  University  Rabbinical  Alumni,  the  American
Psychological  Association  and the National Association of Social Work-
ers; Rabbi Mehlman is, in addition, the President of  the  Vaad  of  the
South Shore; and
  WHEREAS,  Rebbetzin  Mimi,  as  she  is so affectionately called, is a
graduate of Brooklyn College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts  degree
and  received her Master of Social Work degree from Yeshiva University's
Wurzweiler School of Social Work; and
  WHEREAS, In addition to her total involvement in the  machinations  of
the Lido Beach Synagogue Sisterhood activities, as "Sisterhood Advisor,"
Mimi  serves on the National Board of Amit Women and is the Director and
Facilitator of Support Groups for Orthodox Women who are caregivers; she
also often lectures on caregiver issues and their impact on the Orthodox
Community; and
  WHEREAS, Rabbi Daniel and Mimi Mehlman have been blessed with  wonder-
ful  children: Alieen and Moshe, Miriam and Avraham, and Beth and Yitzc-
hak, who are all active in communal activities and have given them  many
loving grandchildren; and
  WHEREAS,  During  the  past  36  years,  Lido Beach Synagogue has been
enhanced by the commitment and devotion of Rabbi and Rebbetzin  Mehlman,
their hands on leadership and their devotion to the Lido Beach Synagogue
family; and

  WHEREAS,  Rabbi  and Mimi's interest and involvement in the welfare of
the Synagogue have no bounds; under Rabbi Mehlman's inspiration, it  has
built  a  new  Sanctuary,  erected  an  Eruv, dedicated and presented on
behalf of the Synagogue members and friends three  ambulances  to  Magen
David  Adom  in  Israel,  established  an outstanding Nursery and Hebrew
School and propelled Lido Beach Synagogue as a  true  beacon  of  Judaic
Light in the Lido Beach Community; and
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  course  of  their service to the Lido Beach
Synagogue, Rabbi Daniel and Mimi Mehlman have exhibited  uncommon  valor
and  wisdom; their involvement and leadership have been characterized by
an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all their endeavors on behalf of the synagogue
and their community; and
  WHEREAS, In recognizing Rabbi Daniel and Mimi Mehlman for  their  many
years  of  inspirational  and devoted service to the synagogue and their
faith, the Lido Beach Synagogue proudly honors a  couple  who  exemplify
the  highest aims and ideals of Judaism, adherence to Torah and mitzvot,
maintenance of the traditions of the Jewish people,  and  commitment  to
their community; and
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is proud to extend its highest commen-
dation to Rabbi and Rebbetzin Mehlman for their dedication  and  commit-
ment to their community and their heritage; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute  to  Rabbi  Daniel H. Mehlman and Rebbetzin Mimi Mehlman as they
are honored by the Lido Beach  Synagogue  at  its  46th  Annual  Journal
Dinner on Sunday, June 16, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rabbi Daniel H. Mehlman and Rebbetzin Mimi Mehlman.
