LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  the American Cancer Society Eastern
Division Asian Initiatives & Helping Hands Foundation upon the  occasion
of its 4th Annual Journey of Hope Gala on June 13, 2013

WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New  York  State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions  and  individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the American Cancer Society Eastern Division Asian Initiatives & Helping
Hands Foundation upon the occasion of its 4th  Annual  Journey  of  Hope
Gala;  this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Thursday, June 13,
2013, at Leonard's in Great Neck, New York; and
  WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based
voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major
health problem by  preventing  cancer,  saving  lives,  and  diminishing
suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service;
the  year 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Socie-
ty; and
  WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society  Eastern  Division  Asian  Initi-
atives  &  Helping Hands Foundation works closely with elected officials
in its mission to reduce the burden of cancer in New York's  substantial
Asian  and Asian American population through cancer prevention, service,
research, education and advocacy; and
  WHEREAS, Each year, Asian Initiatives delivers immeasurable impact and
great  value  to  the  community  by  promoting  prevention  and   early
detection,   offering  free  screenings  for  underinsured  individuals,
providing support and guidance to cancer patients and their families and
helping to improve these patients' quality of life during  their  cancer
journey;  it hopes to save lives and create more birthdays by prolonging
the lives of patients, both physically and spiritually and to  galvanize
the Asian community in embracing our important mission; and
  WHEREAS, The Journey of Hope Gala is supported by prominent members of
New  York and New Jersey's philanthropic community leaders and is one of
the American Cancer Society Asian  Initiatives'  distinguishing  events;
and
  WHEREAS, At the 2013 Journey of Hope Gala, the American Cancer Society
Eastern  Division  Asian  Initiatives & Helping Hands Foundation will be
honoring Mun K Hong, M.D., the Director of Interventional Cardiology and
Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory of St. Luke's  and  Roosevelt  Hospi-
tals; George F. Heinrich, M.D., Chairman of NYHQ; and Vincent A. Benena-
ti, Chief Executive Officer of East Coast Orthotic and Prosthetic Corpo-
ration  for  their significant contributions and outstanding services to
the community; and
  WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a  unique  opportunity  for
this  Legislative  Body  to  recognize  and  pay tribute to the American
Cancer Society Eastern Division Asian Initiatives & Helping Hands  Foun-
dation; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an organ-
ization of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our  atten-
tion,  it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend the American Cancer Society Eastern Division Asian Initiatives &

Helping  Hands Foundation upon the occasion of its 4th Annual Journey of
Hope Gala; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted  to  the  American  Cancer Society Eastern Division Asian Initi-
atives & Helping Hands Foundation.
