LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending James B. McHugh, upon the occasion of
being named winner of the 2013 Civic Award by the  Bay  Ridge  Community
Council on June 13, 2013

WHEREAS,  A great community is only as great as those persons and organ-
izations that provide exemplary service, whether  through  participation
in  voluntary  programs,  through  unique  personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors, or simply  through  a  lifetime  of  good
citizenship; and
  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to commend James B.
McHugh, upon the occasion of being named winner of the 2013 Civic  Award
by the Bay Ridge Community Council; he will be honored at its 62nd Annu-
al Dinner Dance on Thursday, June 13, 2013; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Bay Ridge Community Council is an umbrella organization
composed of nearly 100 civic groups, whose goal is to improve the quali-
ty of life for residents in the Brooklyn, New York, neighborhoods of Bay
Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Fort Hamilton; and
  WHEREAS, The Bay Ridge Community Council Civic Award is given annually
to an individual who has a passion for improving life for  those  around
them,  while  at the same time capturing the unique spirit of Bay Ridge;
and
  WHEREAS, The son of Barbara and Joseph McHugh, James McHugh is one  of
seven children; his family moved to Bay Ridge in 1964 and became parish-
ioners of Saint Anselm Catholic Church; and
  WHEREAS,  Senior vice president of Signature Bank, James B. McHugh has
been called upon to contribute his time and talents to  countless  civic
and  charitable  endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly;
and
  WHEREAS, James McHugh is a member of the Cathedral  Club  of  Brooklyn
and treasurer of the St. Patrick Society of Brooklyn; he is an executive
board  member of the Boy Scouts of America, an advisory board member for
the Bay Ridge Center, a member of the  board  of  governors  for  Daytop
Villages,  Inc.,  and  a  member of the Bay Ridge Bayforts, the Colonial
Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 3; he  also  plays  an
active  role in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life fundraising
event; and
  WHEREAS, His outstanding community service has received numerous acco-
lades; he won the International Brotherhood Award for P.S. 104 in  2008,
and was named the Ragamuffin Parade's "Man of the Year" in 2009; and
  WHEREAS, A resident of Staten Island, James McHugh is a parishioner of
Our  Lady  of Good Counsel Church, and is actively involved in his chil-
dren's school; and
  WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period  of  his  community  service,  a
period  of  constructive involvement, James McHugh has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
  WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife,  Kristin,  and  their
three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual  for the benefit of others which James McHugh has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend  James  B. McHugh upon the occasion of being named winner of the
2013 Civic Award by the Bay Ridge Community Council; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James B. McHugh.
