LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commemorating  the  9th  Annual Bed-Stuy Alive!
Festival to be held October 12-19, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that  the
quality  and  character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of  the
community and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commem-
orate  the 9th Annual Bed-Stuy Alive! Festival to be held October 12-19,
2013, on Fulton Street, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York; and
  WHEREAS, Bed-Stuy Alive! will begin on  Saturday,  October  12,  2013,
with  the Gala Kick-off street event, and end with the 35th Annual House
Tour of Bedford-Stuyvesant on October 19, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, The Bed-Stuy Alive! Collective is  a  joint  venture  of  the
Bedford-Stuyvesant  Artists'  Association, the Bridge Street Development
Corporation, the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration  Corporation,  Community
Board  No. 3, the Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Inc., the Bedford-
Stuyvesant Gateway Business Improvement District, and the  Bedford-Stuy-
vesant YMCA; and
  WHEREAS,  Bed-Stuy  Alive!,  which promotes the best of the community,
such as its shops and businesses,  tourism  and  fine  arts  legacy  and
fosters  community pride, includes live cultural performances from local
schools and community organizations and a special live concert featuring
some of Brooklyn's hippest, hottest and funkiest bands; and
  WHEREAS, In addition to great entertainment, this free outdoor  neigh-
borhood  celebration  includes  the  Tohma  Y. Faulkner community awards
presentation honoring some of  Bedford-Stuyvesant's  community  legends;
and
  WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations  of  such  noble  aims  and  accomplishments  are
brought  to  our  attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  9th Annual Bed-Stuy Alive! Festival to be held October
12-19, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Bed-Stuy Alive! Collective.
