LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  Alain  Sherman upon the occasion of
being named a 2013 United States Presidential Scholar

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the  achievements  of  its  young
citizens  and  leaders  of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and  values  cherished  by  this  great  State  and
nation; and
  WHEREAS,  This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Alain Sher-
man upon the occasion of being named a 2013 United  States  Presidential
Scholar; and
  WHEREAS,  Academically,  Alain  Sherman has distinguished himself as a
young man of superlative ability,  talent,  and  maturity,  establishing
standards  of  excellence  and  achievement, purposefulness of life, and
responsibility rarely achieved in youthful years; and
  WHEREAS, This  esteemed  award  recognizes  students  for  outstanding
academic  achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and
service  and  contribution  to  their  school  and  community;  students
selected  will be personally presented awards by President Barack Obama;
and
  WHEREAS, Alain Sherman, a 17 year-old senior at Roslyn High School  in
Roslyn  Heights,  New York, scored a perfect 2400 on the three-part SAT,
which tests students on math, critical reading and writing; and
  WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates,  Alain  Sherman
has  brought  honor to his family, school, and community by being chosen
as one of only 141 students nationwide to receive this honor; and
  WHEREAS, Alain Sherman credits his teacher, Allyson Weseley, coordina-
tor of secondary research at Roslyn High School, with being an inspiring
mentor, and his most influential teacher; and
  WHEREAS, Alain Sherman may stand with pride in his achievements, expe-
riencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of  his  accomplish-
ments,  eager  to  face the challenge of new experiences as he continues
his education; accepted  into  the  combined  bachelor  of  science  and
medical degree program, Alain will attend Northwestern University in the
Fall; and
  WHEREAS,  Alain  Sherman represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to  honor
this  young  man,  recognizing  his  achievements and the promise of his
future; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend  Alain  Sherman  upon  the occasion of being named a 2013 United
States Presidential Scholar; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alain Sherman.
