LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA for
its successful 2nd Annual Muslims for Life Blood Drive, held August  11,
2012 to September 11, 2012

WHEREAS,  It  is the practice of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those organizations of true  purpose  and  worthy  accomplishment  which
foster a spirit of community and service and, simultaneously, work dili-
gently to preserve their rich cultural heritage; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is,  furthermore,  the sense of this Legislative Body to
recognize and pay tribute to organizations and its  members  within  the
great  State  of  New York who serve as role models and have made strong
contributions to their communities; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the  Ahmadiyya
Muslim  Community  USA  for  its  successful 2nd Annual Muslims for Life
Blood Drive, held August 11, 2012 to September 11, 2012; and
  WHEREAS, The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in  1920,  is
among   the  oldest  American-Muslim  organizations,  and  has  chapters
throughout this great Empire State;  dedicated  to  promoting  the  true
teachings  of  Islam and sharing a message of peace and tolerance, it is
part of the international Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, which  spans  over
200 countries, and has a membership exceeding tens of millions; and
  WHEREAS,  In  2011,  the  Ahmadiyya  Muslim Community USA launched its
first Muslims for Life Campaign, a nationwide effort to  collect  10,000
units  of  blood  in  the  month of September 2011 in order to honor the
victims of 9/11 on its 10th anniversary, while  also  illustrating  that
Islam  is  a life-giving faith that teaches that all life is sacred; the
campaign surpassed its goal, collecting  a  total  of  11,803  pints  of
blood; and
  WHEREAS, In 2012, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA renewed its memo-
rial  to  the victims of 9/11, as well as its emphasis on Islam's essen-
tial teaching regarding the sanctity of life, by organizing  the  second
annual  Muslims for Life Blood Drive between August 11, 2012 and Septem-
ber 11, 2012; nationwide, approximately 376 one-day  blood  drives  took
place at more than 200 locations, collecting 11,170 pints of blood; and
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions  of  such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all  the  citizens  of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA for its successful  2nd  Annual
Muslims for Life Blood Drive; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA.
